Do you plan to reuse the mask? You would definitely want to sanitize the mask if you reuse them. There are links to the ResMed sanitation guidelines for hoses, masks, and water tanks in the Useful Links in my signature line at the bottom of this post.blueeyes wrote:A friend gave me a vpap machine that her boyfriend had used. He had COPD. Is it safe for me to use a machine someone else had? Also is their additional cleaning I should do on this machine. It is a good machine with a climate control hose. It is S9 vpap machine with humidifier. Little leary about using it.
I wondered too how to set the pressure on the vpap.
Thanks
When you get the machine in your hands, let's figure out what kind of water tank you have in the S9 machine. Some of the masks can be sanitized more easily than others. A new "dishwashable" S9 tank is around $40 online. Even the "standard" uncleanable tanks can be opened up and cleaned thoroughly by hand.
Replace the air filters just for the heck of it. They're cheap.
As for the machine itself, in theory, you don't need any cleaning of that Just dust it off, check it for cleanliness. Maybe wipe the exterior surfaces off.
How long will the machine have sat unused by the time you get it? An awful lot of the germs that might become airborne and be of some possible concern in general don't live for very long on a clean, dry surface. However, as I said, in theory, you don't need to clean the machine itself. Run it for a few minutes with no filters and no hose to try and blow some dust out when you first get it.
