Gooooo Froggy!!!
I got mammo. Then more mammo and a ton of ultra sounding a few days later. And should get a bill for around $700 in a few days for what insurance didn't cover. *mutters*

I sure do NOT miss that about private insurance!
Several years ago, I got stuck for $350 for an extra X-ray.
After that, I demanded high resolution imaging.
They assured me that was sufficient. Yeah, right!

I had a clean mammogram. I insisted on an ultrasound. My doc said OK - what the heck?! Guess what the ultrasound found? Cancer. I then had the MRI, which did not show cancer. The biopsy after the ultrasound showed the proof. I did have cancer.

Considering how long the PSA has been around for men, I think we girls are long overdue
for something similar that is less S&M, and way more effective!
They claim they want to "save the tata's", but that requires prevention, (maybe a VACCINE), and EARLY Diagnosis!
--let the anti-vaxxers be the only ones with BC!

I wouldn't look to the PSA for inspiration, the PSA is no longer recommended, metaanalysis indicates that it has a high instance of false positives, and large quality of life side effects:

"The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF, 2012) does not recommend PSA screening, noting that the test may result in “overdiagnosis” and “overtreatment” because "most prostate cancer is asymptomatic for life," and treatments involve risks of complications including impotence (erectile dysfunction) and incontinence."

No one is immune to the ever-changing whims of the "experts".
When to do a test, when not to, who gets it and who does not.
Even breast self-examination was in disrepute long enough for a lot of women to slip through the cracks.

You would THINK it would be so simple...however...the mass they were concerned about in my right tata? The doc said he couldn't feel it, EVEN KNOWING IT WAS THERE. And I was told it was 11cm. Er...that's freaking HUGE! so...self groping isn't all it's cracked up to be...even if it CAN BE fun.

New meaning to "getting familiar" with your body.

I agree with you.

How about parents who believe vaccines are going to make their children ill or worse. They want to toss 50+ years of doing away with many terrible diseases in favor of not vaccinating their children. Because of that, those diseases are making a come back. They see it happening all over the country, yet do nothing.

I was the right age during the nationwide testing of the Salk vaccine, and due to my mother's abject terror of
the polio epidemic, I got the vaccine, instead of polio. I will forever be grateful.
But I wonder; if there were a vaccine against autism, would anyone take it?

Update: my MRI is in the morning. I don't expect anybody to tell me anything right away,
but the folks at this hospital may be having a slow year, due to a nationwide quibble with BCBS;
they may have time on their hands. Fingers crossed--webs getting stretchier every day.
I saw the lymphodema person today.
Not nearly as scary, now that I have info about prevention, identification, and treatment.
I always thought it looked so hopeless; but the horrible pictures you see are not typical
of educated, proactive patients.
