I'd respond with what I think, but perhaps it's better if you phone me up instead of my dirtying up the forum with an accurate description.

but here's what we're talking about:

and even after posting that, it still comes in here and craps about

Hmmm....whoops. That's what I get for only paying half (or less) attention to names...I rely too heavily on avatars I guess.

YAY!!! Yup I'm an asshat too.. Been just lurking here for quite awhile since I got sick and tired of being told to "be nice" by the members that think they are the self appointed "moderators". I love this thread, just read it and had a good laugh at the comments ..,. and I'm happy to be a member of the "asshats club".
I have been a member here for almost five years and have tried to return the advice given me when I first started out, quite frankly I would have never made it without you all. I'm sure I needed a swift kick in the pants a time or two along the way and I appreciated every bit of advice.. including the needed kick in the pants.
To the whiners and self appointed moderators........ get a thicker skin and accept the way folks are, it would be a poor cpaptalk if we were all the same and dished out love and kisses along with our advice.
Cheers

Etymology

From the slang expression have one's head up one's ass, thus, wearing the ass as a hat. The term is extended to people who are clueless or bumbling, who don't understand what is going on.
Noun

(pejorative, slang, vulgar) An obnoxiously ignorant person; a fool.

and

ass·hat
ˈashat/
noun
North American vulgar slang
noun: asshat; plural noun: asshats; noun: ass-hat; plural noun: ass-hats

Interesting, I'd thought an asshat was a jerk, that is was just a SFW way to say the other ass word.

While I'm one who leans heavily toward civility, I totally agree with this. Reminds me of a "good cop - bad cop" routine. A singular approach will not always be effective. One time I worked for a group of docs. The wife of one of the young docs came in to meet him for lunch. She was all bubbly, perky, and oh so very happy. After they left there was discussion that she was ALWAYS like that. One crotchety old doc muttered, "She's just too sweet. I like ice cream, but if it was all I had every day I'd get sick of it."
