CPAP and sneezing

Post by Logies101 » Wed Dec 31, 2014 8:25 pm

Before starting CPAP a little over two weeks ago I didn't have a problem with sneezing alot. Now when I wake up and take the mask off I sneeze all day long, like twenty or more times a day. I' m not sick and don't have a problem with allergies. I use a heated humidifier with the heated hose. Anyone else have this problem? Could it be that the air I breathe all night is filtered and my body likes and is rebelling against the 'normal' air during the day? Any ideas?

Try turning down the humidifier - you may not need as much humidity, or may need more, but til you experiment for a couple of days with both high and low (if not off) settings, you'll never know.

Are you at the house when this happens? Could be that the filter is filtering out pet dander and other allergens at night and when you take the mask after a night of filtered air it is irritating you more than it used to.

I have allergic rhinitis and take loratadine for it.
If a couple sneezes get through, it helps keep my sinuses clear.
I cannot make any reasonable connection to cpap.

Yes I'm at my house when this happens, but it never happened before the CPAP, maybe a coincidence?

Did you wear a filter when you slept before cpap?

Nope, I never had the need. I just started the sneezing attacks since the CPAP. It may be what you said, since breathing the filtered air maybe I'm more sensitive to pet dander now. I have a Golden Retriever and he sheds big time.

I was guessing this due to your avatar... that was the point I was trying to make.

Using Cpap has changed your exposure by filtering the air that you used to always breath. A lot of people are allergic to their pets in varying degrees.

BTW I keep the tiger outside...

I do a lot of sneezing throughout the day but I also started allergy shots at the same time as starting on xPap. So I thought it was due to having things I'm allergic to injected into my body twice a week. I do not have any pets in the home so that is, of course, eliminated as a cause. I wonder if it is because of sleeping with the filtered air at night and then during the day we breathe all the pollens, dust, etc in our home. I do not do any sneezing once the mask goes on. Maybe we need a smaller version of a portable pap machine we can attach to our belt and wear all day. LOL.

Maybe your general home/work environment needs more humidity? to match your sleeping humidity.
