Weird Question...but then I'm a weird person!

Post by Greenkat » Wed Dec 17, 2014 2:38 pm

Hey Everyone!

I was just wondering if any of you successful cpappers have found that once you start getting that quality sleep again if you have a hard time getting out of bed?

I have noticed in the past couple months I just want to stay in bed & enjoy my sleep 'a little longer' b/c it feels so darn good! I CAN & DO force myself to get up most mornings to keep decent sleep hygiene going, but I am just loving my bed these days. I had also noticed on my sleepyhead reports my hours of sleep nightly has gradually increased. Straight through sleep...few if any awakenings

I have a decent amount of energy, too, but the bed keeps calling my name. Is this normal? Or is am I just weird?

Thanks in advance for any input!

While I have only used Cpap 4 months, I will say that I have slept more hours on Cpap than I have in a long time. I don't have a certain time or alarm to wake me up and find myself waking up after 8, or occasionally, 10 hrs of sleep. I used to have difficulty going to sleep, seems like i would lie awake for hours watching the clock. So I would stay up to the wee hours of the morning and then wake up after about 4 hours of sleep. I still am more of an evening person but usually go to bed at 11-12pm and find I fall asleep much quicker now. I did have the usual issues getting used to Cpap but now I seem to be sleeping with only a few mask movement issues.

I find my CPAP addictive too, both at night and for naps. Not sure why either but I often want to stay in bed for at least 8 hours, but sometimes up to 10.

I use O2 to supplement my CPAP - I feel like I never want to get out of bed, but my window faces East so the sun makes me get up......wish we had more overcast days

You're probably weird...but it's doubtful that CPAP is to blame.

Kathy, it is normal. You should have what is named a sleep debt, your body is paying it.

In my case it toke months before I was able to wake up with an alarm because when I used the alarm I was hearing the sound but man I had such a HARD TIME to wake up no joke it was as a far sound I was hearing unable to wake up.

After something like one year, yes one year I started to sleep only 7 hours and wake up renewed without problem and without even need the alarm. Then each time I put the mask on it was like a sleep pill it toke a couple of minutes to fall asleep until the next day, marvelous.

Thanks for all the responses!

It doesn't matter what time I go to bed...I still want to stay there & experience that quality sleep. I can only compare it to a carnival ride you love, have been on 10 times in a row, and still you don't want to get off...keeping saying to yourself 'one more time!

Addictive definitely describes it!

I went from an average of 4-6 hours of fragmented sleep nightly for years to 8-10 hours of UNinterupted sleep now every night!

I did wonder about the sleep deficit I am no doubt repaying as well as the early darkness this time of year, cold weather & overcast days we have had for the past month here on the East coast.

Probably a combination of all those things...plus being weird, but not as weird as Palerider

bahahahaha!!!! She's got you pegged!!!

Fwiw...I used to sleep as much as I could...but I can FEEL the difference in sleep QUALITY between pre-treatment and now. I'm much nicer now, even road rage doesn't last as long anymore. Welcome!!

Before cpap, I awoke many times a night. If one of those times I did not have a headache,
I stayed up, even if I had only slept a couple of hours. Those headaches were vicious!
Once I started therapy, I no longer had the frequent awakenings or the headaches . . .
---I could sleep in on the weekends, or get up and go to work. It is better both ways.
Sleeping late is so nice--it makes retirement so much more agreeable.
