Me, too. There is a blast of air otherwise when I take the mask off, and it's about the only time that the machine makes any noise.chunkyfrog wrote:I use it to start the machine, but I push the button to shut it off.

Re: Why Don't Suppliers Tell People About This?
On the S9, if the DME doesn't mention it and has it set to the default of off, the patient would never know if they didn't get the clinicians manual. The only time is shows up on the patient screens if the option is set to PATIENT in the Clinical setup menu:
SmartStart—only displayed if set to PATIENT in the Clinical Setup menu
SmartStart—only displayed if set to PATIENT in the Clinical Setup menu
On my S9 this is clearly not an issue. I sometimes make a game of it to see if I can not trigger it on by holding my breath as I put the mask on. If the machine was still on cool down, it almost always turns on once I get a mask seal.Woody wrote:On the one that does have it I often have to inhale and exhale very forcefully to trigger this self start.

Re: Why Don't Suppliers Tell People About This?
I do use the SmartStart on my machine. I like that it starts automatically so I don't have to roll over and get tangled in the hose to start the machine. I still usually push the button to turn it off (especially if I have to get up in the middle of the night so I don't wake my fiance with the crazy air sound).
The first night I had the SmartStart turned on my fiance was goofing around and went to put my mask on and got a good startle when the air started! It was pretty hilarious to watch!!

IMHO, If we don't bug Apple store guys to explain every feature in the iPhone, why do we expect the DME to show us everything.

Informed consent is only mandated for medical matters. That is the difference.

Would that be a deficiency of some kind? --like frustration?

If the DME showed every patient everything, the costs would be high. But then nobody here expects to pay for what they get.Guest1 wrote:IMHO, If we don't bug Apple store guys to explain every feature in the iPhone, why do we expect the DME to show us everything.

Re: Why Don't Suppliers Tell People About This?
I used the auto start/stop up to a couple of weeks ago. I quit, because I was pushed for time to get my mask set before it came on, and I was holding my breath a few seconds not to trigger it. I noticed the airflow graph showed me essentially being breathless at the initial lights out, settling down after a few minutes. Also, the light green box in the other graph hit the ceiling, every time I took the mask off and let it turn itself off.

Just because some people like to use a convenient feature, doesn't mean they're viewing themselves as "suffering" if they can't use it. The easier they make cpap, the more likely people are to be compliant with it.ChicagoGranny wrote:Suffering in America.

I agree with you and am a big fan of continuous improvement in regular small steps.Thatgirl wrote:Just because some people like to use a convenient feature, doesn't mean they're viewing themselves as "suffering" if they can't use it. I also am a fan of radical innovation that brings big leaps forward for the human species.
BTW, I use the Auto-On feature.
