Prevnar 13 - Need Advice

Post by Boyce » Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:29 am

Would like some advice on when to have this. (I am skilled at googling, looking for someone who has done some actual research.)

I had the regular shot at age 60.

A little explanation as to what you're referring to would be nice. Or is it low T stuff?

How old are you now? The info says it is not effective within 5 years of getting the original shot.

Are you misreading something? The info on the FDA website says,
The effectiveness of Prevnar 13 administered less than 5 years after 23 valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine is not known.
That just means it has not been studied, not that it is not effective. There is no reason to believe it would not be effective taken within five years of the usual vaccine.

But Medicare did not pay for your first shot. They will only pay for one pneumonia vaccine - whether Prevnar 13 or the conventional shot.
