ResScan couldn't see my patient file but I see it!!!

Post by NateS » Sun Nov 16, 2014 3:48 pm

ResScan's autoscan can't seem to find my patient file as of this morning even though I can plainly see it from the desktop with Windows Explorer.

Manual scan to find within ResScan doesn't work manually either.

Anyone ever encounter this problem and/or know a solution?

Using Windows 7. I restarted Windows to no avail.

Regards, Nate

You might try forcing windows to scan the SD card for errors - right click the card in my computer, select properties, then tools. Use the check
disk for errors option.

Thanks, Tom but the SD card is fine and in fact I transferred its contents within ResScan to a new Patient File I created to receive and preserve the data on the card until the problem with the original Patient File on my laptop can be hopefully resolved.

The problem is with what ResScan calls the "Patient File" on Drive C. ResScan can't see it any more even though it is in the very same place it has always been and I can see it with Windows Explorer where it appears as it always has as a folder entitled:
"S, Nate".

I know that there are ResScan experts here on cpaptalk.

Isn't any one of them available/willing to step forward and try to help me out?

I have over two years of records locked up in that Patient File!

Best wishes, Nate

Can you please explain what is happening in better detail? No data at all? Any messages that you see? Has it lost your patient profile?
What version of ResScan?
Did you move anything within ResScan itself?

Thanks for offering to help, Pugsy.

I believe that I am using the most current version of ResScan.

I did not move anything within ResScan.

Normally, ResScan scans for the available Patient files in one of numerous ways - either when an SD card is inserted, or when you click the button on the Start Page to open a Patient File, or when you select Tools etc. But when any such operation is launched now, my Patient File is gone:

But when I quit ResScan and look for it with Windows Explorer, there it is where it always is!;

Please verify version..the most recent is 5.1.0.8731

I was afraid that the patient list was now empty. I don't know what would cause that to happen. I don't even know if you were using a slightly older version of ResScan if you were to update.... if it would repopulate the patient list.
I have never seen that happen before or heard about it. This is a new (to me anyway) problem.

I am scratching my head here.
I have to ask....you didn't accidentally delete that patient profile did you? I am going to assume the answer is no because it takes a special confirmation "do you really want to delete" command.
I have a previously deleted user profile in my ResScan. Give me a bit of time and let me see if I can figure out some way to bring it back or reactivate it. Probably tomorrow as I am getting tired now and brain isn't so sharp when it is tired.

Anyone else have any ideas? I am not sure I can come up with anything and it would be nice to have other ideas.

Open ResScan
If you click on "Tools" in the upper menu and then "patient manage"r do you see
Examples
S, Nate
from the populated list like you do with Explorer?

What is weird...I don't have a Patients folder showing in ResScan when I use Windows Explorer to look into ResScan so I can't find my user profile when using Explorer but it's there when I use ResScan's patient manager.

I played with ResScan. The only thing I can think of is that ResScan broke and needs a reinstall or upgrade if you aren't already using 5.1.xxxxx.
I am stumped.

Don't suppose that you have a backup of your stuff? Personally, I back it all up using Carbonite for just such a thing. Have you tried it with the version of ResScan that the patient files used to work with? Have you tried removing and re-installing the version of ResScan that you're using? And yes, this could be a disk problem. For example, one of the sectors that your data was using may have gone bad and a new spare sector linked in place of it. In that case, a backup again would be the way to go.

Do you know if there was a data conversion done when you started to use ResScan 5.x? And your data did work before with ResScan 5.x, or only with 4.x, before it was converted (if it was). After so many years of working in the computer industry, I'm totally paranoid about losing data, so I tend to keep a backup copy on my computer in situations where others wouldn't.

Sorry that this has happened...ResScan seems particularly fragile in regard to data files. Sleepyhead is a better, but I've had moments with it as well, especially with this latest version, but that's a whole other story *smile*.

When you open the folder S, Nate does it look like all the files are there?

If so, find the file PatientDetails.db and rename it PatientDetails.old.

Copy the PatientDetails.db from the new Nate file you created and paste it in the S, Nate folder.
