Can you gt an eye infection from nasal pillow?

Post by cnl390 » Sun Oct 26, 2014 2:24 pm

I have read that a person can get an eye infection using a full face mask, but can you get one from a nasal pillow?
I ask because I got an eye infectiom a couple of days ago and was wondering if it is from the nasal pillow or just a coincidence?

Coincidence or maybe that the air is blowing into your eyes through the tube that links your eyes to your nasal passages (used to drain tears from eyes). Only an ophthalmologist can tell you this.

I've found my fall allergies (ragweed and mold in TX) hit my eyes "harder" than previous years before I started CPAP, or maybe they just hit my nose less thanks to filtered air and nasal rinsing.

For a while I thought I was getting leaks causing my eyes to dry out but that would be very tough with a P10.

Maybe if you touch the pillow to your eye after a night of being in your nose.

If my eyes are getting too dry--for any reason--I use artificial tears, for comfort mostly.
The really important reason is tears protect our eyes from infection.

You were actually diagnosed with an infection by a medical professional that specializes in the health of the eye and visual systems, or you think it is? Those are two very different things.

doesn't take a rocket scientist to spot conjunctivitis

It is possible to get conjunctivitis. Or it just may be a coincidence.

Actual conjunctivitis, viral, bacterial, or fungal, versus a ton of other noninfectious causes for irritation of the conjunctiva, is not something a non-medical professional who has specialized in medicine of the eye would be able to determine.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is doing themselves, and anyone who consults with them, a huge disservice.

medical definitions seem to disagree with you:
con·junc·ti·vi·tis
kənˌjəNG(k)təˈvīdəs/
noun
Medicine
noun: conjunctivitis

inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye.
it's a generic term, and I stand by my statement.

Yes sure it is like saying "That leg looks broken" It doesn't help the person with the broken leg any. It still needs a specialist or two or more to fix the issue.

probably, but the original comment was along the lines of "just because your eye (socket lining) is all red and swollen and there's puss leaking out doesn't mean you have conjunctivitus, unless you were diagnosed as such by a professional". when, in fact, it does exactly mean that.

now, what casued it, and what is the right treatment, that's something that more expertise can better tell you. but recognizing the generic "conjunctivitis", aka, inflamation of the conjunctiva, doesn't require any medical training, "hey, man, your right eye is red and swollen!" bam, done.

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctivita but inflammation can be caused by irritation not always infection. If there is pus it would possibly be infection but I didn't see any mention by the OP of this. Could be allergy, dry eyes, or infection and would help to know which.

Bingo. Among other things, redness of the eye can even be neurological in origin.
