Re: Air leak through ears
Would it be possible that the OP had tubes installed as a child, and they never fell out?

Re: Air leak through ears
They have big jet engines that burn kerosene rapidly creating a large forward force. There are wings that have a curved top so that air traveling over the top must go further than air traveling underneath. This spreads the molecules of air out on the top of the wings and creates a much lower pressure than that under the wings. The pressure under the wings lifts the plane into the air. There are many control systems built in which create a safe flight for passengers, freight and crew.ChicagoGranny wrote:How do those work?mgaggie wrote: pressure reducing ear plugs, they are designed for use on planes.

That would truly be 1 in a million. Now, tubes that fell out, and the tympanic membrane never sealed correctly, rare, but not unheard of. However, other problems almost would have certainly cropped up before now prompting a visit to the ENT and discovery of the tympanic membrane being non-contiguous. So, both possible, one much more likely than the other, but still both are long shots at best.chunkyfrog wrote:Would it be possible that the OP had tubes installed as a child, and they never fell out?

If you do have perforated ear drums, an Oracle oral mask will not blow air out through your ears if you learn to use it right. You need to learn to use it without the nose plugs or a nose clip. I found it dried my mouth and throat out too much, and it was uncomfortable to not breathe through my nose, but it will fix your ear leak.

They have small holes in them. So they won't totally block out sound, but they do relieve the pressureChicagoGranny wrote:How do those work?mgaggie wrote: pressure reducing ear plugs, they are designed for use on planes.

I had tubes put in my ears when I was 4 or 5 years old. At age 9, we moved to a different state, and returned when I was 14. I did not return to that doctor until I was in my early 20s. He looked in my ears and discovered that I still had a tube in one of them. He removed it, and it threw off my balance for about half an hour.
I'm not aware that it ever caused any problems for me.I do have some minor hearing loss, enough that I notice it, but the ear specialist says I got 100% on the hearing test. Ear aches are pretty rare for me, maybe 1 every couple years. Unlike my childhood of all the time. I do have more issues with them popping while traveling, or needing to pop frequently.
I was surprised a couple years ago when I was at my doctor appointment and a student doctor asked about the marks in my ear. My doctor said it was scarring from tubes. I found that interesting as I don't recall ever mentioning them, so it must have been pretty obvious for her to know that.
I have had no issues with cpap and my ears.

Ear tubes were after my time. Had I been born later, I would have probably had them.
As opposed to what I really needed--an antihistamine.
