fwiw - I put all my settings including mask on the list with my meds. Using painters tape (or a gummed label) with the machine settings on it and stuck on the machine might be another idea.
Guest - thank you for this tip on noting cpap equipment and settings on med list and machine - great ideas!

Rica - glad to hear your dad is doing better; I hope he continues to improve

IIWY I'd still be keeping close vigilence. That quick of a turn around and amnesia (see side effects of benzodiazepines) suggests somebody got a little too crazy with the happy juice.

That has a certain ring to it.

Mind if I use that as the working title for the next song I write?

Did I mention he's an "habitual drinker?" (I did) Let's amend that to functional alcoholic. Yes his CO2 is elevated but the delirium was brought on by the detox. And I will be keeping a watchful eye over the next few days

None of my business, really, but I'd still like to say that your posts make me impressed with you as a daughter and a human being. Just needed to say that. Thanks for letting me.

Finding a way to be of practical help to an ongoing (as in, not-yet-recovering) alcoholic can be difficult work for anyone. Especially family. I'm sure your making your presence known to the medical staff is accomplishing a lot in and of itself.

And your posts may have inadvertently set quite a fine example for a number of us dealing with similar situations in our lives.

+1
I will add that I think the staff pays more attention when they know the family is watching. Sometimes the staff will miss that the doc made a change in meds so keep an eye on that too.

Plus it is much easier to recover when you have family support.
3 legs to recovering from any illness...
1. You need a good doc (+ medical staff)
2. The Pt needs the will to live
3. Family support to keep things focused

Got him settled in the rehab unit at a nursing facility this evening. For the love of God, clean your mask and hose more than once a decade! Ugh!!!

Why would you bother with that when you can get new one every year or so.

Lol that would require forethought on his part, not his strong suit. This is a man whose license was expired for EIGHTEEN MONTHS before he even noticed, and he then had the audacity to say "well when we lived in MD they would send you a renewal notice, why didn't they do that here??"

Honestly though, when your neoprene headgear feels like lanolinized wool, it might be time to at LEAST rinse it out in the sink...
