The Ultimate Chin Strap is awesome for me

Post by TedVPAP » Sat Feb 07, 2015 10:40 am

I have been using the Ultimate Chin Strap for a few years and want to provide an update.

I recently purchased two new straps and the fit, quality, and comfort is much better than previous. It works great.

Another tip that I recently started doing is using a clean sock as a liner over the mouth. Fold the sock in half and it adds additional resistance to mouth leaking and keeps the chin strap clean; greatly reducing cleaning frequency.

Background:
Since I am at a very high pressure (19 inches of water), I prefer to use nasal pillows. Force is equal to pressure times area, so smaller area means less force which is easier to seal. I have tried full face and hybrids but too much leaking. However, the problem with pillows is mouth breathing/leaking. A normal chin strap keeps the jaw closed but the lips can still leak. Taping the lips shut works but I prefer not to. The Ultimate Chin Strap works by keeping the jaw closed and providing resistance against lip leaking. So you may still leak past the lips but the leak rate is greatly reduced to an acceptable level.

An unrelated tip regarding the mask is that they do wear out in ways I didn't expect. Over time the tiny vent holes that are designed to leak at a determined rate so that exhalation can take place will open up and allow too much flow. I tend to be cheap so I was using my mask for too long.

can you provide a link to the chin strap you use ?
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I'm willing to research the Ultimate chinstrap however I've had great luck for several years with the Ruby Chinstrap from CPAP.com. That said, it's always good to have more arrows in your quiver.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
