ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
I just discovered that the ASAA forum is now history. If you try to visit the old forum you will be automatically redirected to their new Facebook page. Participation requires logging in with your Facebook ID.

Well, so far their reorganization seems to be extremely underwhelming. Why should it be any better? If people don't demand effective representation they'll continue to be treated like chumps. And they'll deserve it.

I'll find out from Susan.
Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
I don't normally make these kinds of comments. But....
If you use an ASAA forum, I recommend using the MyApnea.org forum, not the Facebook Forum.
With Facebook, there are always security issues, even if people use the security measures. There are security issues and risks using any part of the internet, sure. But Facebook, by design and purpose, provides access to personal information. Even with security measures, often one can learn about you by searching the friends. Stay clear of posting medical issues to a Facebook page because an insurance company or potential employer are more likely to learn about you by searching Facebook. The MyApnea.org forum and other public forum software sites like this one, are more secure than Facebook, in that they are separate, and there is extra privacy through private messaging.
IMHO, if you want to advocate for something else, contact them.

Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
I figured something was up because it was way too long for a website to be down regarding a malfunction. Why they did it is beyond me since posting on Facebook about medical problems is not a good idea as L Duyer has wonderfully outlined. But I guess we shouldn't be too surprised at their actions.

Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
I have two facebook IDs - One with my real name and one with a fake name. Maybe if people want to participate in medical groups, they should create a fake profile?kaiasgram wrote:I just discovered that the ASAA forum is now history. I also use the fake profile if signing in to facebook is required to view a page and I don't want to reveal my true identify. I know I sound like a complete nut but I just don't trust facebook for the reasons L Duyer outlined.

Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone
Perhaps what I have done is underwhelming but I just sent an email to Tracy Nasca, executive director of ASAA, saying these latest efforts definitely move nowhere near patient advocacy for apnea patients. I also complained about the forums not being preserved so that folks could search the archives for information that might be helpful.JQLewis wrote:Well, so far their reorganization seems to be extremely underwhelming. I will let you know if she responds.
