Columbus Ohio Sleep Docs?

Post by Zzzer » Thu Aug 01, 2013 2:44 pm

Hello all.

I am new to this board, as I have recently been dx'd with severe OSA with some CSAs present in my first sleep study. I have always been a snorer, but over the past year, I have been experiencing bad insomnia and at times, waking up in the middle of the night with a racing heart beat. If it were just for my snoring, I would have never pursued looking into this. From what I can tell from reading many of your posts, insomnia isn't always an issue with most cases of SA. In a way, I guess I'm glad it triggered my action to investigate my sleep further.

So my first issue is working with a good doctor. From my review of a number of posts here, it's apparent that many of you have gone through a number of Drs. before finding one that actually provided you with results. My first (and current) Dr. is a neurologist / sleep specialist here in Columbus, Ohio. However, he and his office have been less than impressive thus far. For example, when they told me of the CSAs, they said that this could only be treated with a BiPAP. I asked about an ASV for Central Apnea, and the staff said they have never heard of that before. They are also reluctant to forward me my first (and only) sleep study report. I requested it, but have yet to receive anything (2weeks after the study).

So I'm not sure if this site is one that can provide recommendations for specific Sleep Drs., but I would like to hear from anyone from the Columbus Ohio area that has a good doctor and any other suggestions. If not, I'm also open to any advice on finding a good doctor, in order to minimize my navigation through the health care maze.

Thank you.

Welcome fellow Ohioian. I did all of my sleep studies and Doctor visits through the Cleveland Clinic and my care has been wonderful.

I have a good friend who went to Central Ohio Sleep Medicine they are affiliated with Mt Carmel. They are in Gahanna. She recommended that I use them
also, but at the time I could not stay awake to drive that far. I am trying to call her to get the doctors name. If i reach here I will edit this post.

The problem here in Cleveland is all 3 of the big hospitals are booked, and you have to wait along time to see anybody.

Good Luck in getting your sleep under control.

Agreed. I have been treated by Dr. Roy in the same practice group.

The facility is decent and the care and response I have had were great.
Dr. Roy handed me my sleep study document before even discussing what I had and went over what all the squiggly lines meant.

Of course, have my CPeeps on this board to help me know what I was doing sure helped! As I have said before, this gang has helped me become and effective part of my own sleep-care team.
