OT: Down Memory Lane .....

Post by Slinky » Wed Aug 22, 2012 9:04 am

I'm older than dirt. How many of you remember Burma Shave???

Before I was 13 we drove from Michigan to Texas, from Texas to Cincinnati, from Cincinnati to Michigan, from Michigan to Philadelphia, from Bay City, Michigan to Petoskey/Charlevoix, Michigan, from Bay City to Traverse City, from Bay City to Gladstone/Escanaba, from Bay City to Saginaw, from Saginaw to Dowagiac/Cassopolis. Some of those trips MANY times. The Texas to Pennsylvania trips were all pre-school but still vaguely remembered in patches. I went to 8 different schools and changed schools 11 different times. Burma Shave was my buddy! I loved Burman Shave.

Car in ditch / Driver in tree / Moon was full / And so / Was he / Burma-Shave

I had the book at one time. It has all the verses, as well as history--"a must read".

Edit: Yes, I'm that old.

If you are older than "dirt"....you might only be 39 or maybe 40...as it is scientific knowledge that "dirt" renews itself about every 38 years So if my grandkids tell me I'm older than dirt..I just say "thank you".
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Considering that most people consider "compost" dirt ... Only a few weeks under ideal conditions ...

Grew up in the greater Cincinnati area and traveled between there and the NW corner of Virginia a lot, and yes, the Burma Shave signs were on the landscape of my childhood too. Hadn't thought of them in many many years. Thanks for the smile.
