Another alien visit

Post by Pugsy » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:19 am

I was going to add this to my other alien visit example thread but I can't find it so decided to create a new one.

See my report examples from Aug 14. I have no idea what happened during that 6 AM cluster of centrals.
17 of them in about 17 minutes starting at 6:03 AM. I can't explain this one away. I have no idea if I was awake or not. I don't think I was awake.

This is the first time I have seen something like this. It surely is not common and other than shrugging my shoulders I don't plan to do anything about it. This one I am definitely going to blame on aliens.
On a good note...my leak line is much improved. Been working on using a buckwheat pillow to keep me off my back. Limited success as I find that it often winds up on the floor.
Most of the individual breaths don't really look like CSR pattern. Too irregular. Probably some sort of periodic breathing for some reason but I am not prone to try to dissect such a rare occurrence as this. Too much work and no way to really know for sure so why bother doing the work. I rarely have more than 5 centrals the entire night. Never ever had anything like this show up.

When the central apneas are clustered like that, it is possible and quite probable that you were shifting from sleep to wakefulness and then back again. It's quite normal to have no memory of those events throughout the night. Having spent years on call (7 by 24 by 365), I can assure you that you simply will not remember those periods. My wife used to ask me "So, what was that call about last night?". I would wonder what she was talking about. She would repeat what she heard me say .. and I would invariably be in a panic, since the procedure she repeated would be pretty demanding and cause problems if not done right .. Of course, invariably the operator / system programmer that executed it during the night did it right and no problems resulted. However, I would have complex and detailed conversations but often not remember ANYTHING about them the next morning.

Still, having said that, if we eliminate the clusters, you tend to exhibit periodic central apneas throughout the night. It might merit a conversation with your sleep doctor.

The Zeo might come in handy for indicating if you were in and out of Stage 1 sleep...

Thanks John. If I have any periodic breathing looking stuff it is extremely rare and very short lived.
I was probably in and out of sleep and don't remember it. Along around 6 AM or so I tend to start waking up. Normally I remember it but this time I didn't. I am not concerned about this particular little blip in my therapy. It is something I haven't ever seen to this extent. Should it start showing up on a regular basis then I will investigate further and call the doctor. Other times I have had maybe a couple of maybe periodic breathing looking minutes. Nothing clear cut and very rare when I have the "maybe" PB stuff.

Randy....yeah I have thought about the Zeo but this is the first time I have ever seen anything like this and the Zeo costs so much and what are the chances I will ever do this again? This is one of those things that I sort of scratch my head and chuckle over but at this point I just don't have the urge to try to really sort it out. First time in a year and a half using a machine that showed centrals that I see this...it might not happen again for another year and a half.
I don't see the Zeo actually offering me anything that I might do differently. I sleep well, feel quite decent...don't feel the need to fix anything. I just don't know if scratching the curiosity itch at $150 is worth it to me. So far it isn't worth it to me. Now if I start seeing this stuff on a regular basis...yeah...I might fork over the $.

Thanks Max. I will mull it over. Found out I need to replace the front lower ball joint thingies on my truck. Ouch.
I need to scrape together $500 or so for that first. I did save the link and also one to the Zeo website so I could read up on it more.

Like John said, maybe the events are part of an almost awake, then reentry sleep cycle, tho that is sort of a long time period. I find it helpful to look at the Tidal Volume line, maybe even the Exp and Insp lines to see where breathing patterns changed leading up to and out of this cluster. Change in breathing times and volumes is usually a precursor to problems. Maybe if it's not too much work you could post them and blow up the beginnings and the end of the episode? This might also be a useful conversation for others who have 'alien invasions' out of nowhere.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Is this what you want? They all look mostly the same. I never go this deep into this stuff for a number of reasons.
Mainly I am lazy. It is not something that interests me so I don't expend any time or energy trying to sort through it.
Now if I saw this stuff every night and several times a night..different story.

I have clusters like that sometimes but it's at the other end when I'm going to sleep for the night. I just write them off.

Okay... now I know what happened! You were the person who sent the aliens to my house after they left yours. Woke up to find my machine on the floor and water spilling out all over. Stupid cord got caught up in my comforter. I think it's time to route the cord over my head... although I hate the idea.

I think the machine will be okay - don't see many places where the water might have gone. Letting it dry out today. Even decided to change the white filter while I'm at it.

I hope you have a better nite. I think you will b/c the aliens are exhausted from last nite.

I rarely ever have anything at the beginning of the night. I think because I pretty much put the mask on and breathe for a couple of minutes and I am out for the count. Now at the waking up time...yeah, I have seen some pretty obvious awake or semi awake clusters when I lay there trying to decide if I want to get up or not. These are almost always within the last 45 minutes or so of my sleep time.

I think there was some time during the night that the aliens came that I woke up with my back hurting like a SOB. Really bad...one of those times I dreamed my back was hurting. Wonder if the alien visit was related to the back pain?
I don't keep a clock in the bedroom so no way to judge the time. Wee hours of the morning are also when I have lain in one position for quite a while and that also makes the pain worse and the pain meds are long since gone.
That might explain the alien visit. I just now thought of that. Normally when I wake up and I am in severe pain I am on my back. I usually just turn back over on my side and go back to sleep.
