Poll: Do you use your mask as it came or with modifications

There are many masks available from many manufacturers, each trying to be the perfect mask for somebody, and manufacturers have doubtless spent many thousands in design and testing. As I was making yet another addition/modification to my current mask, and after reading here about many products (thanks Karen and Pad-a-Cheek) and schemes to make masks work better, I wondered whether anybody actually uses a mask directly as made. So…

Most of my (headgear) modifications are not listed:
Swift FX: cover top with spare side strap covers, velcro on inside of back strap.
Comfortgel FF: re-sized headgear (why in Heaven's name don't they make a 'small'?)
Sleepweaver élan: replaced hose tether with home-made one, half as long, working on lingerie fabric earloops.
I have tried numerous others--not successful enough to continue.

Some of the manufacturers already include a comfort pad or sleeve. The Aloha comes with. I think one of the swift FX come with.

I use it as it comes, but as of tonight I will create the Bellario, to see if it works for me!

I use mine as it came. I tried a Padacheek and it made things worse for me. Tweaking the mask straps until I got the best fit worked for me

My Swift FX came with strap covers so I'd have to vote for one and two.

My "fix" isn't listed, though I'm sure it's common. I use the FitLife Total Face ask in size large, but need the the small straps. Actually, what I prefer is to use the large straps with a kufi cap on the crown of my head to take up the slack and aid fit with the large straps.

Welcome to the twilight zone....

Take the gimbal off of a Fisher Paykel nasal pillow and glue it on to something like a F&P zest (non Q) frame with ResMed FX nasal pillow.

If you take this journey, you will have the sleep of 10,000 kittens.

I have taken a P/R Comfortgel full face mask and cut a half inch of strap out of each side of the closed triangle at the back of the headgear;
re-connecting with pieces of Velcro cord-minder strips. This makes a small out of a regular--(sewing to be done later).
I'm tempted to try the same with the Sleepweaver headgear, but my lingerie loops are so comfy; maybe I'll work on them first.

The Bellario did not work for me. Since my head is rather small, there was no tension to keep the pillows there even on the tightest Bella strap position

Me thinks that IF you are using a mask right out of the box then your therapy is likely not very effective and/or you have not checked to see IF it is.

So my answer is with mods.

You may find it hard to believe but there is a whole sun-culture of people who think that simply wearing the cpap mask (as is) every night is sufficient. They know how to turn the machine on & off and have dome so for years. IF they have to do more the machine will sit in the closet.

Still others who actually believe that their DME will check their data AND let them know IF something is wrong. That IS blind trust.

The same people prob swallow pills w/o even know wth they are. It takes all kinds to make this world go around.

This topic makes me smile as I well remember the days of long ago when I would take an xacto blade and modify my Sullivan Balloon mask(s).

IMO, the mask manufacturers have figured all this out. They fit perfect right out of the box.

And what box contains the regulation face to fit the mask?
