Anyone have a nasal mask blow out?

Post by VikingGnome » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:38 am

My sister started Bipap one week ago and was given supposedly new mask, machine, tubing. After just one week's use, the nasal mask just blew a huge hole. Her DME said if she turned on the BiPAP without mask on her face, it would blow a hole like that. What is the DME thinking? If the mask isn't on your face, all the air has easy escape compared to when it's on your face. Couldn't possibly blow a hole. I think it was old and out of package and had become brittle. And her pressure is only 15.

Not sure why she's even on BiPAP. The DME told my sister a big fish story about ResMed not making BiPAP machines anymore and this was most expensive machine ResMed made. DME obviously doesn't know about ASV machines that cost at least twice as much as BiPAP.

I am with NanWilson. What a load of crap.
Sounds like either defective mask or old mask and an idiot DME representative or a bald face liar.

Contact the manufacturer of the equipment.
They may want to know if DME is palming off old crap.
Or generating same.

DME should have offered a free replacement -- and people wonder why we are so skeptical of brick and mortar DMEs.

I would return their equipment and go elsewhere if at all possible.

Hi,

I can see how the marketing people might say this since ResMed calls their BiLevel machines "VPAP" rather than "BiPAP". The respiratory tech, however, should know that a VPAP and BiPAP are both BiLevel machines.
