Comfortlite2 not for Canadians ??

Post by Bellcrest » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:03 am

Here is part of a response I got from cpap.com when I ordered comfortlite2.

>>>>Your order is for products manufactured by ResMed, but
effective February 17, 2006, ResMed has prohibited
United States suppliers from distributing its products
internationally. This restriction includes dispensing
their products without a prescription from a doctor in
the United States. However, other brands do not carry
this restriction.

To process your order, you may provide a prescription
from a doctor in the US, or you may replace your
ResMed items for similar items by other manufacturers.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed with
your order. You may respond to this email or contact
us by fax at 713-541-7370, or by phone at 800-356-5221
or 281-831-4019.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I was at my sleep Doctor yesterday, and he had never heard of the comfortlite2. I guess we Canadians are now left out in the cold. How would we get a prescription from an US doctor? I live about 8 hours from the nearest border. Any one have any suggestions for Canadians?

The price of masks here is outrageous, $300 - 450 range is what we can expect and people like me, who pay for our own insurance with Ontario Blue Cross are out in the cold as they do not cover cpap equipment at all.

ComfortLite2 is made by Respironics, not Resmed.
I had no problems ordering one from CPAP.COM and I live in Europe.

So right you are, and I missed that. I was so upset when I read the post from cpap.com that I didn't even clue in on that.

I will be phoning this this morning to get this straightened out.

Thanks for 'waking me up'

Comfortlite2 and Canadians

Post by Hawthorne » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:46 am

We will get the Comfortlite2 eventually here in Canada. It will cost more than in the US. Your price range of $300 and up seems high. I have never paid $300 for a mask here. I would be careful about ordering from CPAP.Com for shipping to Canada. The cost of shipping is very high and then when you add the exchange it will cost you more than it would cost if bought in Canada.
I have a Comfort Curve and waited several months for it to come to Canada but it was cheaper than ordering from the US.

Canadian Prices

Post by Bellcrest » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:58 am

Prices I quoted are straight from RT at local Home Care Office.

I have ordered from cpap.com in the past with no problem. They marked package as medical supplies so no duty.

The exchange on the US dollar is the lowest it has been in years so even paying the exchange, I save by purchasing from cpap.com

Left on my own to find the right mask has been a struggle. If not for this board and others like it, I would probably have quit long before now. I have severe OSA (106 events per hour) with apneas lasting 92 seconds and oxygen stats of 72 so, had I quit, my health would most certainly be at risk.

I am close to finding the right mask. The swift is ok, the breeze is what I am currently using, I have an aura on the way and want very much to try the comfortlite2. I just know I am going to find my 'right for me' mask soon.

The Swift is made by Resmed. Resmed is the company that won't allow sales of its equipment outside the US.

I never liked the Swift, and thank God I own nothing made by Resmed.

I have a Swift and I love it. I saw the notice here on CPAP.com about not shipping RESMED products outside of US, but thought that that was just an online shopping issue. Does this mean that I will never be able to buy replacement pillows for my Swift without making some US connection?

Help!

clarifying original post

Post by Bellcrest » Tue Mar 28, 2006 11:13 am

I originally posted that cpap.com would not ship the comfortlite2 to Canada....Not True. What they wouldn't ship was the Resmed Connector tube that I had also ordered. I guess if I want one of those I'll have to go to my DME and pay through the nose.

They are going to ship the comfortlite2 which I just can't wait to try. Once I receive it and the aura I have coming, I absoultely swear I will not purchase another mask for a very long time!!

This has become a real addiction.

BTW, At my appt yesterday with the sleep doc, I was telling him about the aussie heated hose. He had never heard about it and gave me his email address so I could go home and email him the link to the heated hose.

Do you know anybody who lives in the U.S? They could order it and send it to you.

Greetings,

Resmed has made it clear that US Suppliers who ship their products internationally will be cut off. The notice on our website is in line with this Resmed policy. We are unable to ship Resmed products internationally until further notice. Other brands are shipping internationally.

Sincerely,
Johnny Goodman

Resmed "cut off" eBay sales of used CPAPs by applying pressure to corporate eBay. Now Resmed announces that they will "cut off" any US suppliers who sell to other countries. Resmed sure sounds anti free enterprise to me!

I think Resmed is "cutting off" their own foot. Consumers are going to get good and fed up with Resmed's bullying pressure tactics. When they do they'll "cut off" Resmed from their own purchasing decisions.

ResMed sucks I wanted to purchase an Ultra Mirage full face from cpap.com and now they have put the kibosh on that. At the DME here in Canada it costs $350 to purchase one. Why would you need a prescription for a mask . Is Resmed thinking that bird flu comes from the states or are they thinking mad cow Somebody needs to tell them that we in Canada shipped some mad cow down there. .
