Leaks, leaks and more stinking leaks and AHI

Post by BigTex » Fri Apr 06, 2012 10:03 am

For the last two weeks or so my leaks has gone up.
I have refitted the mask, even watch the video on the Resmed site on how to do it.
Changed the seal.
Used a Remzzer.

Nothing really seems to work.
Not sure why the leaks has increased.

Of course the AHI has increased too.
High might be around 10 now but it was never really that low.
I was happy if I saw it below 5 but it never got down to 1 or 2 for example.

I ordered a mask liner from pad a cheek and should have that next week.
Not sure if that will help or not but we will find out.

I also did a mask trial for a Quattro FX.
I used that mask before but it was during the time when the pressure was too low.

Not sure what to do next and I can't figure out why my mask is now leaking so much more.

But overall this is working better now so progress has been made.

Thanks.

Starting with the obvious... After some time masks wear out. Perhaps it is time for a new mask.

What might be happening is that your mind has accepted cpap therapy and you are sleeping deeper and your face relaxes more. You might need a different mask all together.

I hope not...

Lets see what happens when the Quattro FX comes in.

Maybe it's just me, but I notice has the shortest lifespan on silicone parts.
They are nice and soft, but durability is important, too.
Practically ANYTHING outlasts their cushions and pillows.
I dare them to deny it!

I wash my seal each night and it wore out after 6 weeks. I would suggest ordering a new one. It tends to wear out quickly.

I agree with the previous post. Especially when you wear a full face mask, they tend to wear out quicker than other mask. You can order just the face cushion and the clip from your supplier. It is a lot less expensive than ordering the whole mask. Most insurance companies will cover these every month. Its like getting a new mask and may make a difference in your leaks.

My Quattro cushion lasts 3+ months without washing. I use a citrus wipe most nights. I tried boiling the cushion and it turned out like new. Clear and tacky.

Also...You might try the pad a cheek anti-leak strap for the Quattro...padacheek.com

I have the same mask and had the same issues, I ordered the Pad-A-Cheek Liner and Anti-Leak Strap and life is good, well except my nose bridge still hurts all the time - to combat that is two band-aids with some cushion tape on top of them. I also bought one of the Tempur Pedic Cloud pillows, keeps my head still and is very comfortable. I went through three weeks of hell/leaks/issues and am finally settling into good therapy, 14 days straight with my AHI ranging from 3 to 5

Already did that but it did not help.

Cool. Just ordered the strap so let the games begin.
Will report back on how it works.
