S9 Humidifier blows warm air, can this be changed?

Post by DynoDad » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:39 am

Just received my H5i humidifier (thanks NHS ) this week, and while it has cured my dry mouth it blows warm air instead of cold which I find very uncomfortable and almost claustrophobic.

Is this a by-product of the humidification process, or can the temperature be adjusted? There is a Climate Control setting in the menu, but there's nothing in the documentation to say what it does.

If you set the temperature to zero and/or set the humidity level to zero (depending if you have the ClimateLine hose or not), the humidifier will become a pass-through system and not heat the air.

Yes, but it will put out a LOT less humidity. You can turn the humidity setting down, and the temperature will tend to go down as well.

You can buy a standalone unheated "passover" humidifier. Since it's got a bigger surface area and baffles, and is designed to be an unheated humidifier, presumably, it will probably produce more humidity than the S9 humidifier without heat.

That's my one complaint. I wake up each night now about 5 hours in b/c of my mouth being completely dry. I have my temp setting on the humidifier at 80 and the climateline changes that a degree or two either way depending on the temperature in my bedroom. I have a full face mask but as i'm going to sleep i keep my mouth closed. Maybe i should just drop the temperature a bit?

Sometimes lowering it a bit helps, but I'm in the same situation as you. Even with the climateline, I wake up with a dry mouth. I've found keeping the room humidity around 30-40% relative helps a bit, but during the Winter, I get used to dry mouth LOL

Thanks for the link, I didn't find that page. If I read this correctly you need the Climateline type to be able to adjust the temperature, I don't have that so maybe that's why the Climate Control option doesn't appear to do anything? The tube is pretty cheap so is it worth buying one?

I will try it tonight with the humidity turned down to maybe 2 (think I have it at 4.5 at the moment) and see what happens.

Are you out of water in the morning? At 4.5, you may be using all the water in the tank if you don't fill it to MAX

Nope, plenty of water left. I wake up several times a night to warm air.

Yeah, I would start by lowering it to 2 or 3, and see if that's more tolerable. I use 3 myself, and find that the air is "room temperature" but not noticeably warm.

I don't like warm air either - my temp is at 74 deg. and humidity is 0.5

Cheers,

80 for the climate control setting was way to warm for me too... I set mine to 75.

I don't seem to have a climate control setting, am I right in thinking you need the climateline tube for that?

Dropped the humidity to 2 last night and that seemed much better. Will try 2.5 tonight but I reckon I'm getting there.

Is the HVAC duct close to your machine?
Mine is, and I can tell if the furnace is running by the warm air in my mask.
The warm air does not come in the back of the machine, as the shelf is tight against the wall;
but the warm air comes up from under the night table and washes over my hose.

Yes... the climate control setting is not enabled unless a climateline hose is attached. I think getting the climateline hose is well worth it--not only for the temperature control but also rainout prevention.
