Trying Swift FX mask

Post by needzzzzs » Sat Jul 16, 2011 4:35 pm

Have used the Swift LT for Her for the entire 8 months I've been using CPAP. Most of the time it works pretty well, but I was due for a new mask and decided to try the Swift FX (my DME did not have the "For Her" version). First night, pretty good (with medium pillows). Last night it was noisy enough that my husband complained, so I went back to the LT for Her for the night.

I don't like the hose hanging down, because I can't seem to easily direct the vented air away from my hands when I sleep.

Will keep trying the mask for a few days, but if it doesn't get better, back it goes.

I'd like a few minutes with the guy who designed the vent on the FX-- to torture him with freezing cold air!!!

I highly recommend a hose hanger. It will redirect the arctic blast up an away from you and will prevent the weight of the short hose from dislodging the nasal pillows.

You can tape a small piece of filter material over the holes and it will completelly remove the air blast.
You must be very carefull not to block the vent holes or you will end up rebreathing your air, but I don't think this filter will have any effect.
I've now been using the same filter for 11 months.

A hose hanger also helps.

I agree with janknitz on the hose hanger. I alternate between the Swift FX, the Swift II and the Swift LT. My large feeder hose is always fixed in the same position on the hose buddy and each of these three have their own short hose to go up over my head. Eliminates the problems with exhaust blast for me and my wife.

Please tell me how you get the small feeder hose from the Swift FX to go up over your head. I have been using the Swift FX now since Feb, when I started CPAP, and am thinking of changing to the Opus at replacement time, just because I want the hose to go up over my head, and the Fx does not have anything to hold the feeder hose over the head, so did you "labrat" yours? I have a hose buddy from Pur-Sleep hanging on the wall, & it is not much help to keep that feeder hose up and away from me, over my head. I think it is a design flaw in the FX that there is no easy way to put that hose over your head like it does on the Opus.

Just route it up over your head and use a couple of strips of velcro to attach it to the top silicone strap in sort of an X pattern.

Thanks, all, for the helpful suggestions. Last night seemed to go better, for several reasons. One is that I turned the fan up on medium to mask some of the noise that was bothering the spouse. I changed to smaller pillows, too, so was more comfortable. I used a chin strap, since I mouth breathe sometimes, which also seemed to stabilize the nasal pillows. Now I need to go look at my data, to see how well the therapy worked.

I use a headband and hose hanger as detailed in the below link.
This setup is very successful over the past year

That's my homemade hose hanger. I'm actually on the "next generation" now--I'm using a plastic pulley meant for clotheslines. Works great.
