Make Your Own Quattro FX Headgear

Post by 70sSanO » Sun May 22, 2011 8:12 pm

I have posted on a number of threads about how the Quattro FX headgear really doesn't work for me, gets too tight, mask rides up my nose, or it leaks into my eyes.

I have also posted that I use elastic straps and I am sure that others have found home-grown solutions so this is nothing new. If you like the Resmed headgear, that is great, don't change.

But I decided to take a few pics and list what I use.

Dritz elastic #9407B (1" for the bottom strap) and #9434B (3/4" for the top strap). I buy the elastic at Jo-Ann Fabric for a little more than a buck a yard and use about 2 ft. The bottom strap has lasts over a month and the top I replace every 3-4 weeks because it is easier on my ear. I also use a cheap $2 headband that I cut in half for the bottom strap.

The Tri-glide clips are 3/4" for the bottom strap and 1/2" for the top strap. These sizes keep everything from slipping. I bought them online from Best Buy Buttom & Buckle I got a qty of 10 each of 4 differnt sizes. They take PayPal and the clips were mailed to me from Taiwan. The whole thing ran a little more than $10.

I don't unclip the straps to put on the mask, I just stretch them over my head. It does make it easy to fit the mask to my face with the pressure on. I usually tweak the length on the straps once a week or so. After a while it is easy to judge if the straps need to be tightened. My median and 95% leak over the last 2 months is 0.0 and 2.4 L/Min.

The only two downsides are the top strap likes to set on mty ear like glasses and it got a littel sore for a while... adn you have to unweave the top strap to clean the mask if you don't want the strap to get wet.

If this helps anybody, great. Keep in mind, your mileage may vary.

John
