First ResScan Screenshots - Insight on the OA Spike?

Post by Sandra » Thu Jul 29, 2010 6:52 am

I've done 3 nights on ResMed S9's CPAP. I didn't include the first night's data as there was a lot of playing around with the equipment.
First posting of July 27 I'm sleeping with a Swift FX nasal pillow. The July 28 shots are while I was using a Swift LT For Her nasal pillow.
I thought the FX shifted some now and then, needing adjusting, but I woke up feeling great. With the LT my first impression was that it felt much more secure. However it was my perception with the LT last night that I was frequently waking up with it making leak sounds, and kept adjusting it. Once I woke up feeling quite badly, as though I might have had an apnea event, and my mask had been shifted causing a big leak.

Now the situation with last night, the July 28 data goes like so:
-Ignore the first leak spike, that was me getting up to turn down the tv, couldn't find the bleeping remote. lol
-Once I got up to use the washroom, turned the machine off - I am guessing that is probably just past the half way point as I see the ramp line again
-I woke up once with mask leak and feeling super crappy, guessing might have had apnea event

I am curious about the indication of the off-the-chart obstructive apnea event; when I moused-over it said it was 110 seconds (!! am I reading right?) ; and immediately after that time there is a break in the data in 4 out of 6 graph lines. Why's that?

Would welcome and appreciate any interpretations!

(Also, I have not located a way to change the time setting - my actual sleep times were closer to 11-6ish, not 7-2ish as indicated.)

I'm going to go back to the FX tonight. Had a little rest this aft with it on, felt a lot easier to tolerate. Not sure if the data really suggests one works better than the other.
Will also be giving some nasal masks a try soon.

Because of the fairly loose fit, both of these masks slide around against the pillow if you move your head.
Try UFO13's trick of sewing some velcro hook tape (the stiff side) inside the back strap of your Swift LT and FX so that it doesn't slid around too much. That might have been the cause of your leak if you moved in your sleep.

The LT takes some fiddling to find that perfect adjustment. Once I did I marked exactly where the straps were and used permanent marker (it wears off fast) to try to make the line up of the gear to the pillow cradle so when I wash it I can get it back to EXACTLY the same position--otherwise I have leaks. Because the FX wraps around my nose better, it's less fiddly, but I find that I have it fairly tight compared to what people say you need to keep it from being pulled away from my nose by the weight of the slinky hose or rubbing against the pillow. It's still the most comfortable mask ever.

Janknitz - your post kept me from discarding the LT from further attempts, thanks. I sucked it up and tried again last night, and lo and behold, I slept really solidly with zero OA events. Wow. Will definitely give it another go tonight.

Most folks would die for your numbers. Keep in mind it will take time for that to translate into feeling better...in my case, I never felt getting enough sleep for about 2 months. Kept on trying different masks, tweaking pressures, switching apap to cpap to apap...you get the idea.

Just remember that it's a marathon. Good luck.

Thanks d!
Yes I have definitely noticed that there are many people with numbers that are constant reasons to be concerned. Glad to know it's going well for me.
I was esp curious if I really could have stopped breathing for nearly 2 minutes that one event (which shocks the heck out of me), or if something else could have caused that data.

Sandra,
Where did you find the software to read your card?

Thanks!
