Is this normal or do I have leak

Post by Spirit » Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:57 pm

Hi,
I tried cpap bypassing the humidifier. My pressure is set to 10,. The pressure is super strong compared to pressure from humidifier, the mask feels like it's going to blow off my face, major leaks..... I couldn't stand the strong pressure directly from cpap, reroute through humidifier, the pressure is controlled, no leaks.

Does bypassing the humidifier suppose to increase pressure ?
Thanks

Something is wrong. How did you bypass the humidifier?

Hi Rooster,
The humidifier unit disconnects from cpap. Then I attach hose, directly to cpap. DME tech showed me how to do.

There should be no noticeable increase in pressure at the mask end. With or without the humidifier the machine should be delivering approximately 10 cm of pressure to the mask.

Have not seen this problem come up here before. Strange.

Can only suggest try putting the humidifier in again and see how it feels. (Edit: I see you have already done that, so take the humidifier out and try one more time without it).

When was your last sleep study? Maybe your pressure has changed?

As rooster stated, there should be no noticeable difference in air pressure with or without the humidifier. Something is wrong with your machine if there is an actual difference. The pressure is easy to measure. You should take your machine and humidifier to the DME tech and ask to have the pressure measured both ways.

Thanks for replies, think I'm having cpap malfunction. Pressure is greatly reduced with humidifier, possibly the reason for 0.00 leak rates for weeks. Will have unit checked.
Thanks

Update

Post by Spirit » Mon Feb 01, 2010 3:28 pm

Hi,
Called ResMed today, and spoke with a rep. Problem was discovered. I removed the seal from humidifier cover to clean, once I put the seal back on the humidifier cover, it's not sealing properly. Reason for my questions of diagnoses recently. Pressure greatly reduced with humidifier pressure, opposed to direct cpap.

Reason over time, I began to feel more fatigued again, then unit seals properly sleep well, then not. Each time I fill water tank, the seal changed. Need to call DME for replacement.

Phew !!!! Finally figured it out !!!

Thanks for everyone's help.

The seal fits 'right' one way and the other 'side' will not seal properly -- ensure the right side is used when re-installing that seal. If you view it carefully you'll see how it seals. If you've been installing it 'upsidedown', it might have been warped...not sure, just check it out. Good to see you found an answer, that was a puzzler.
