My Brother-in-law told me he's been having trouble keeping his eyes open when he drives. So, I logically asked him what about you cpap machine? He said h threw it out and I remember him telling me he sleeps fine. Well, obviously it's not so fine. In 2003, I got my first machine, a Sullivan bi-pap because driving at night was horrendous and my girlfriend who eventually became my SO, was sleeping in the guest bathroom bathtub the first night she stayed over, She bought ear plugs and nothing worked. Thank god I had a sleep study, which showed nothing, but my new internist was a Pulmonologist and ordered the machine. I never had that driving problem again and never had that staying up in a movie theater or a show again. I can't believe how I struggled as Phantom and Les Mis, which I loved. I also couldn't stay up through the Eau Show in Las Vegas or the Show at the Lido in Paris but that happened in 2007 and 2008, after using a machine, both having to do with being boring as hell and Jet Lag.

So, I told my brother-in to get back to a sleep Dr, and maybe try a bipap so that you don't warp yourself or you grandchildren or someone you don't know around a tree on the highway. I remember initially it was weird using a machine but nothing like that first sleep study I had where there were electrodes everywhere including on my eyelids. That ridiculous sleep study lasted about 25 minutes and they set up the 2003 machine for 12 and 8. Nevertheless, I slept well and I saw the difference in my awakeness right away.

Now I have to get on this guy and make sure he gets sleep therapy.

Alan

I was called for jury duty twice.
Both times, I had to fight the sandman.
This was during voir dire.
In the one trial for which I selected, no problem.
It was juicy!.

When I did grand jury foreman duty, I irritated all my fellow jurors in between presentations by interviewing each one of them, one at a time, to keep us all awake. Many of them expressed appreciation for it. A few hated me for it. But it sure kept us from being bored.

We all managed to help with the indictment of a few ham sandwiches, either way.

I hope now I'm not arrested for disclosing confidential behind-the-scenes information from a grand jury proceeding.

Objection.

Leading, argumentative, assumes facts not in evidence, and calls for speculation.

Yeah. I know. Overruled.

In the past, he has made claims that he sleeps only three hours a night. If I did that, I wouldn't be able to sit still more than five minutes without falling asleep.

I was selected for a DUI trial where the guy was supposed to be using a breathalyzer to start his car but decided he was going out partying and drove a car that didn't have one. But he got caught in one of those roadside checkpoints was arrested (drunk) and now want me to waste my time listening to his story in court?

I managed to get dismissed when I told them I couldn't remember anything and frequently fall asleep.

My perp broke into a house, drank the homeowner's liquor,
and then bit off a chunk of the homeowner's ear.
Juicy, boozy, and bloody.
The statute of limitations/his life expectancy, etc. probably puts me in the clear.

This forum has officially won the Internet for having the only known thread with the word "Trump" in the title that didn't eventually turn into some version of the fight scene at the end of Blazing Saddles.

Look at the timing on his social media postings. He doesn't sleep at night.
That is a variety of Sleep Disorder!

Wrong again.
Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.

Would/could that not make one psychotic? I just googled the word to be sure it fit.

I already know from before cpap, 3 hours of sleep left me very difficult to deal with.
Sometimes, I appeared to be a raving lunatic.
I guess it goes with the territory.

First of all, please keep partisanship and politics out of this thread. It's not about that.

Multiple reports say that Donald Trump is falling asleep in court; sometimes for up to fifteen minutes at a time. We should be questioning whether he has a sleep disorder, such as Sleep Apnea or Narcolepsy.

Should be be found guilty, the judge should order a sleep test in for the pre-sentencing report. If he's acquitted, the judge would lack the authority to order this.
Kind of a ridiculous premise, no matter what the judge finds Trump couldn’t be ordered to do a sleep study. The only time in the US a person can be forced to undergo medical treatments is when they are physically or mentally incapacitated.

Trump is an elderly man, even a young man might struggle to stay awake during long boring court proceedings.

I’m no fan of Trump and I guess he’s invited a tit for tat criticism for his attacks on Biden’s age, but I could care less that sometimes falls asleep during a long drawn out court proceeding. I think your suspicion of narcolepsy is completely nutty and off base. He could possibly have OSA, or just as likely he burns the candle on both ends to often.

Biden actually publicly admitted he has OSA and is using CPAP. While as a CPAP user I appreciate and respect that Biden admitted to using a CPAP, I expect many politicians as many of us CPAP users understand there is a stigma attached to CPAP use. There is zero chance someone with Trump’s personality and public persona would ever consent to a sleep study.

Or if they want to keep their job as commercial pilot or driver.

There is no doubt about this.

Is there a stigma against cpap use? I've not experienced it, only received encouragement and answered lots of questions. IMO, it is more of a vanity issue. People don't want to be different and don't want to make a change. That was my point of view but it quickly changed after the first blissful night of rest on cpap leading to a happy wife. Now if my house is on fire, I am reaching to save the cpap machine over any other possession! Of course, family and pets come first!

How do we ever know how another person will respond to a private recommendation from one's physician? It should be private information and not part of public discourse. One can speculate but their speculation may be spot on or wildly inaccurate.
