If you have a kind of big head then which full face mask are you using

Post by tbeb » Tue Dec 01, 2020 1:12 pm

My head is kind of big (7 5/8" hat size). I tried an Amara View. The largest cushion was too small. I tried a F & P Vitera. It hurts my nose and neck. I took quiz on the Resmed web site and they recommended the Airfit F30i, F30, and F20. I'm going to ask my home medical supply store about the F30i. Anyhow, I'm wondering what full face mask works best for you "kind of big head" guys.

I have a 7 5/8 head. I have used the F20 and the F30i successfully. :)
Get the sizing right and you should be OK.

F30 only comes with standard headgear. F20 also comes with standard headgear, but the large headgear is available. It's juts a separate purchase/item.

F20 comes in Small - Median - Large. Your choice.
Drop down menu at https://www.cpap.com/
Might be on sale, check home page. (they may all be on sale) :D

Most full face masks are sized for "normal" size heads.
If your melon is either "too small" or "too large", you will be forced to try a different style,
or another type of mask.
It is what it is . . .

Resmed activa lt. It's better for high pressure and not a full face. I use either large wide or large. Either or. They have a large size headgear (the strap) or normal size. At most stores you can specify large.
My head is so big I was called charlie brown in boot camp. So, tiny, it should work for you.

I have the opposite problem (insert Zippy the Pinhead joke here.) Back when I used an F10 the headgear was ridiculously too big and the straps irritated my ears. I cut through the "X" on the back of the headgear and overlapped the sides and safety-pinned it together to make it a lot smaller and was golden. You could probably do the reverse -- cut it apart and spread the halves apart and use some duct tape to give yourself a gap. Voila! XXXL headgear! :-)

It's curious that you recommend a nasal mask to an OP who is asking for recommendations on a FFM???

If your face fits the frame/cushion, but the headgear does not fit your head,
a quick and dirty solution would be to add a velcro cord holder to bridge the gap between the velcro on the mask.
Temporarily, until you can sew an extension.
These cord holders are double-sided velcro, sold in a hardware dept. as a cinch for a wad of electric cord.
They are quite handy for many purposes., and are normally sold as multiples or on a roll.
