FAA Says A CPAP Machine Doesn't Count Against You As A Carryon

Post by tweeter829 » Mon Sep 30, 2019 3:35 pm

For those who fly, you can carry your CPAP into the plane, plus a carry on bag.

It has *nothing* to do with the TSA, it's an FAA regulation.

TSA could care less how many bags you carry....they just don't want bombs and such.
It's the airlines that care how many bags a person carries and allow the exemption for medical devices.

I had to laugh when I read the responses. I simply post something that may help those who are unaware that your cpap bag is not the only bag that you can bring into the cabin, and I get those responses. Of course, I have an odd sense of humor. :D

When I fly, I deal with the TSA, but ok. Since I know you are the word police, I will strive to do better. Maybe you should get a job with the TSA or Customs. I can envision you saying, in a German accent of course, "WE NEED TO SEE YOUR PAPERS!!!!"

Actually a lot of people think it is the TSA that makes the rules for limits on the carry on items and it's not.
All we are wanting to do is try to avoid furthering that common misinformation.

You could edit your topic an say "FAA says a CPAP machine doesn't count..." and that would be the correct terminology.

I know it seems like we are nit picking but the TSA just is for security issues....they have nothing to do with how many bags a person want to carry on the plane. They only care about the contents of any bags, boxes, whatever that you carry on....meaning security issues like firearms, bombs, chemicals to make bombs and stuff like that.

If you wanted to pay for 15 bags to carry on....TSA simply would check all of them for potential security issues and happily send you on your way. They have nothing to do with the fees that the airlines might impose or size limits or anything like that.

What it comes to if you post, find out what you are talking about first. Follow the money the TSA gets their money from all of us, the Airline gets it by the bag full. Fhe FAA. makes the rules, and we pay for them too. Score, Gov. Two hands out Airl0ines one big hand out. Jim

Okay, I edited the title. Please forgive me for believing an article by USA Today would be titled accurately :D .

No doubt they were having a slow news day, their shovel must have broke, they couldn't dig deep enough to find more dirt on Trump! They had to go back into their Way Back Pile from years ago to fill the paper. Jim

On a similar track--NEVER check your cpap.---NEVER, EVER!
"Murphy" is a baggage handler, and will lose or destroy your cpap if given half a chance.

Pugsy explained it, but while you may think it's all funny hahaha... people get screwed over *routinely* by DMEs because they don't use accurate terminology, so we TRY to be accurate around here, because playing fast and loose with facts can hurt people, financially, and even suffering crappy treatment.

Sure, maybe it doesn't *matter* near as much in this case... but,

Note: USA Today is about a whisker up from the yellowest tabloid--last I checked.
I would not expect that to have improved.
I don't waste time reading "rags".
