In that case the sometimes maligned distilled water from Walmart is real because I havent had even a hint of problems with it atleast in the areas where the bottler is Crossroads Beverage in Reading, PA. I also believe this the same water as Walgreens Nice water again with the bottler disclaimer.

I just leave any unused water in the chamber and top it off. No sense in wasting the water.

Till biology happens, then you have to leave it and keep topping off, because you never know, the new civilization you've got growing in there may save the planet.

Well, I for one don't try to fool myself into thinking that I can see "biology". Some of that biology is mighty small, you know. Empty my water tank every morning, let it dry all day, then add enough water for the night in the evening. We have a lot of mold around here, by the ocean, and I've found it on my cpap tank, so I try to keep things moving in hopes that I don't get enough of it that it will affect me *smile*.

Since I only need to fill the water tank to just above the bottom of the measuring stick for a night, no big thing.

So it goes...

I top off every time. I have the dish washer safe chamber and just throw that in the dishwasher every month or so. If I saw some "nasties" in the chamber, I may adjust my approach, but until then...laziness rules the day.

I top it off until I decide it's time to clean the water chamber (which isn't all that often especially since the last 2 times I decided to clean the chamber I ended up either dropping it or throwing it across the living room and I got to buy 2 new chambers).

But then I always have to add water nightly...the humidity settings I use and my dry ambient humidity in my house will mean that very little water (sometimes just a few drops if I got lucky and slept 7 or 8 hours) is left remaining in the chamber.

I am not particularly worried about "biology" since it is my biology but I will clean the chamber every now and then....maybe every 2 or 3 months when I think about it but I have to rethink my approach since I can't seem to hold on to the damn things now.
It's hell getting old sometimes.

I just top mine off each night and empty maybe 2 times per month. That’s not per the manual though, so I can’t recommend it.

I use distilled water, because I don't like to have to clean up minerals.

I use about 2/3 of a tank and top off nightly. Every two weeks I clean tank and mask in hot, soapy water.

I stopped using distilled and just use tap water now. Now that the water softener has been replaced, I don't get any buildup. So, I just dump the leftover in the plant in the morning and rinse and refill in the evening from the tap.

RO (reverse osmosis) water is sometimes touted to be "the same" as distilled.
Do NOT believe it!
Fine white powder in my tank--
Not much, but enough to know the source was local. (13 grains here)

RO water is full of salt apart from anything else and will kill your plants.

If the RO unit is working right, there are no minerals in the water, if... Of course.
