New AirCurve 10 S

Post by Bill44133 » Mon May 14, 2018 11:03 pm

Having recently achieved my 5 year anniversary I called my health insurance provider carecentrix cigna, and asked if i qualified for new machine, and I did.

Well today I received my new Bi-PAP AirCurve 10 S. My initial impression is that the size is the same like my PR System One 760., but I did notice that the machine did seem a lot quieter at least for the few minutes I had it turned on.
The man from the DME who setup the machine explained everything to me and we went through the settings. Just to be sure everything was correct. What I noticed with the machine
is if we turned on Large Leak Alarm that it automatically turned the auto on to OFF you have to one or the other and not both. I guess it is like walking and chewing gum  .

I was wondering if any one else had experienced this? Is there a way around it?

There is not an Auto setting on the S model (Basic BiLevel)... The VAuto does have a S setting (Auto BiLevel)... Here is a comparison chart:

If you just got the machine it would probably be a good idea to switch it for the Aircurve VAuto...

There is no way around it.
You can have one or the other but not both when it comes to the large leak alarm or SmartStart (which is the auto on/auto off functions).
It's just the way ResMed decided to do things.

Well I had a very bad first night with this new machine. I haven't had snoring in 5 years on my sleep report. I did last night.
Seems I spent a lot of time in Large leak territory. If I was using the 760 machine I would have been fine.

I am wondering if maybe getting this machine is a mistake? I should have gotten a dream station instead.

Any one have thoughts on this? I have high pressure 23 and 19.

ResMed machines have a much tighter...less forgiving...large leak territory red line than Respironics machines.
I never got a large leak flag with my Respironics machine but get them all the time with ResMed.
Unless I am way deep into large leak territory for a prolonged period of time (or leaks wake me up) I don't really pay much attention to the leaks.

How about sharing last night's report with us so we can see what you are seeing?

What mask were you using when those leaks were flagged?
I will let a little large leak slide but what you are showing is much more than just a little large leak.
Do you sleep through all that leak?

Need to see if we can figure out where that large leak is coming from. Did you change masks? Do you feel the air coming from around the mask? If not have you checked all the hose connections?
While some people do have differences with different machines, maybe if we can fix the leak the other issues will be fixed. I use both the Resmed VAUTO at home and travel with the Respironics 760. While I prefer the Resmed I can easily change back and forth.

Well, that's maybe the worst leak curve I've ever seen.

yes I slept though the events.. I never heard the leak alarm.

Last night was about the same, but this time I kept hearing the alarm. I ended up hooking the mask to the 760 machine, and went to sleep.
I called the company and told them to come get the machine out of here.

I think the problem with the leak was related to the mask and the machine not being able to get a handle on the venting and reporting too much excess leak when too much excess leak wasn't really happening.
I have seen this happen on occasion with other ResMed machines and some masks on some people. It's not common though. We went so far one time for someone to send me their mask and let me try it with my ResMed machine. They were having leak reports like yours.
Combination of mask type (usually a non ResMed mask) with sometimes higher pressures being used which of course increases the vent rate plus sometimes facial hair being involved.

Obviously you don't want to change from a mask that you like and works well with your Respironics machine just to use the ResMed machine but if you happen to have a ResMed mask that you half way like maybe you could give it a try just to see what happens?????

Just curious....which mask is your primary mask that you used last night?
And do you have facial hair?

I always use the ZZZ-Mask by ProBasics. I have NO facial hair.

Do you think I will have the same problem with Dream Station?

Thank you Pugsy.
