Changes To CPAPtalk Operating and Moderation Practices
Howdy All,
CPAPtalk's mission is to help people with CPAP issues - peer to peer.
CPAPtalk must be above all things a welcoming, supportive and helpful place for new CPAP users. Henceforth CPAPtalk will adopt of policy of chasing off the flagrant, profane, repeat offender, intolerable trolls. Regular one time trolls and comments that give offense but are made as part of an attempt at reasoned discourse remain welcome.
Here are permanent changes we're making:
1. We are disabling Guest Posts.
2. @xxyzx, you have exhausted propriety, ignored warnings and made our community less welcoming. You have not supported our mission. You are banned from CPAPtalk.
Here are changes we'll make and see how they go:
1. All new CPAPtalk registrations must be validated by email before becoming active.
2. We are appointing moderators. Pugsy will be the first. Be aware we'll change moderators out from time to time, not because of a job poorly done but to share load and prevent fiefdoms. Moderators are to enforce the user agreement with as light a touch and as much latitude as reasonable.

Thank you, Johnny. I know this is something you really didn't want to do.
Tough for you, but I applaud your decision to make these changes. I think it will be better for the forum and help keep the mission of it on track.

Re: Changes To CPAPtalk Operating and Moderation Practices
Thank you for doing this. This forum has helped numerous people over the years, including me. The last few months, this forum was hijacked by an individual that kept the forum in turmoil and prevented it from being as helpful as it should be. There were also several people who helped stir things up by posting as "guest" in an attempt to remain anonymous. Now, the forum can get back to being the useful tool it is designed to be.

Dare I ask what is the scope of the moderation and will Pugsy's personal preferences come to bear (how could they not)? Have reasons for banning etc. been changed? Do people get 2nd chances in cases where there could be e.g. misunderstandings based on e.g. personal views, political or otherwise?
Thank you... please do not assume my question to be anything other than plain curiosity!

I hope there will be no more bannings for a very long time, or ever. I think its pretty clear how hard you have to work on this forum to be banned from recent experiences.Julie wrote:Dare I ask what is the scope of the moderation and will Pugsy's personal preferences come to bear (how could they not)? Every moderator is a human and personal preferences will enter in, but we have a mission and we have a charge to do this with as light a touch as possible which is a force which will keep things toward the center. This is a big change from no moderation to light moderation, but disagreements respectfully discussed are most welcome. This is inclusive of personal views, political and other. When we debate hard and well on CPAPtalk, we showcase the power of our community. Moderation doesn't seek to reduce this, it seeks to enable it.
We'll be cycling moderators in and out. So, like presidents, if the current moderator isn't your cup of tea, know that this too shall pass.

Wonderful news. Thank you, Johnny! Pugsy is the perfect choice for the forum's first moderator.

Then thank you Johnny - all (recent) things considered I suppose it was necessary... and I'm glad to know you're flexible - sometimes that's needed too but I don't think your principles are compromised!

I'm all for the least amount of moderation possible, but sometimes things get so bad that action is called for. Hopefully the changes will make for a much more helpful forum, and I also congratulate Pugsy as first moderator.
