sleepy during day

Post by blueeyes » Mon Sep 04, 2017 7:14 pm

I am sleepy all day long. Downloaded sleepyhead software to see what the problem might be it said my AHI 4.28 OAI 1.31 HI 2.38 CA.59 and I have major mask leaks. Not sure what is causing the major mask leaks any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you take any medications of any kind? If so, what?
How many hours of sleep are you averaging...actual sleep?
Are those hours fragmented with a lot of wake up or are you sleeping soundly for the most part with maybe just a couple of wake ups.
Do you ever wake up during the night and have trouble going back to sleep?

You are using a Respironics machine and SleepyHead defaults to a ResMed leak number for the % of time in large leak and you may not be having the large leaks it says you are. Sometimes SH says the leaks are massive and they really aren't because of the way it uses the ResMed number for a Respironics leak report. We can fix that easily enough.

Look over on the events graph...look at the top where you see LL....are there any gray flags in the LL line?
Look at the leak graph...any gray areas showing up there.

This is the gray I am talking about. Clearly shown here.

last night it said I slept for 8 hrs 24 mins. I do not see any gray on leak rate and I small gray box on event rate. I slept good last night but for weeks I have been so sleepy I can fall asleep just about anywhere. I have not changed any of my medicine.

I take synthroid for low thyroid and lansoprazole for acid reflux and premarin. I have been taking these meds for a long time.

Thank you. Sometimes meds have side effects that are unwanted and just because we have been taking them for a long time doesn't necessarily mean that we can have those side effects start up out of the blue where we used to not have them.

The meds you show don't seem to have any well known side effects of messing with sleep quality or causing excessive daytime sleepiness during the day.

You say you are on thryroid medication...when was the last time your thyroid function was evaluated?

In general..as much as we would like for cpap to fix all our problems it can't if the problem isn't related to sleep apnea.
If your AHI is acceptable...and leaks aren't an issue...and you are sleeping 7 to 8 hours mostly soundly through the night without frequent wake ups...then probably the sleep apnea thing is fairly well controlled.

Maybe your excessive drowsiness is related to something else. Time to get with your doctor and start looking at other potential culprits.

I had my thyroid checked a year ago and it was ok. I will get with my doctor on that. Last night my AHI was 2.20 ca .14 oa .55 h 1.51 I am not sure what all these numbers mean just learning the sleephead software. I also got message saying cpap leaked way too much and contact my CPAP Adminstrator. I will change my mask and headgear tonight to see if that makes any difference. Anyone have any suggestions please let me know

Remember what I said about SH using ResMed leak numbers and they won't work so great with a Respironics machine???

So just because you get that message doesn't mean it is true. Look over on the graphs and look for large leak gray areas.
If you don't see any or they are very tiny...you don't have leak issues despite what SH says.

=====

those should not cause any sleep problems

long term lansoprazole has other bad effects they have discovered
your doctor should be getting you off them as soon as possible after you can do without them

i was on a double dose of max Rx for years before they discovered teh bad side effects
got off and had no problems unless i overeat at a fast food joint
then the two week dose OTC fixes it again

if your AHI is low you need to look for other causes of being tired or sleepy

SEE! I knew he was off his meds. That explains a lot!
