Question for everyone about tape
Question for everyone about tape
For those of you who tape your mouth now or in the past, can you recommend the best type of tape to use? The type I have now is too narrow and not sticky enough.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Question for everyone about tape
There's 3M micropore, and blue 'painter's' tape - the two most mentioned here (have used the 3M, don't think the blue would stick well).

Re: Question for everyone about tape
Tape type may differ according to your skin type.
I had to try different ones. Cloth tape sticks better than paper tape,
but get the Johnson and Johnson, as some generics STINK.
Blue painters tape has the right amount of stickiness, but is not very flexible.
Again, generics may have different results.
Cloth tape causes my skin to break out. I know because I've had a lot on my chest the last few months.

Re: Question for everyone about tape
3M Micropore has worked best for me so far. They make one that's 2" wide.
Blue painter's tape couldn't handle the drool load.
I also use Poligrip strips with some success.
No perfect system yet....

Re: Question for everyone about tape
I used the blue painter's tape because I had it handy and I am a tight wad.
For the most part it held up well with only occasional failures due to excess drool.
I was lucky though...I really only needed a gentle reminder for the most part to keep the mouth closed and was able to give it up after 2 or 3 months and now I might have an occasional mouth opening thing but it doesn't wake me up and doesn't last long (per the leak graphs) so I really don't care about an occasional lapse.

Re: Question for everyone about tape
3M Micropore works great for me. But note that you can not move it - it sticks properly once and once only. If you misplace it, throw it away and start with a new piece. For me, applying it in front of a mirror works best. I have used both two inch and one inch and they seem to work equally well.

I started with the 3' like these. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... paper+tape
Then I went to the 1" with an X across my mouth. Next nothing.

Re: Question for everyone about tape
I've used both paper and multi-pore plastic tape and now feel there isn't much difference. I think the paper tape leaves a little less residue on my skin after removal, but I wash my face each morning with bar soap, so it's not a big deal. Also: the paper tape does seem to come off a little easier in the morning. Less 'ouch' factor. One nice thing about multi-pore tape is that it is easy to rip an even narrow strip (it's perforated). The previous reply is correct... you get one shot at correctly sticking multi-pore to your skin. Paper tape can be reapplied if your skin and fingers are clean.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Question for everyone about tape
I use a cloth tape, or paper type medical tape 1". I pull my lips in so that the tape doesn't touch my lips in when I put it on: Otherwise it rips the skin off my lips. I put a vertical strip in the middle of my mouth so that I can still sneeze or breathe if I have to. Someone once suggested the use of dental adhesive strips. That was a really bad idea. I used to have a full on headgear which just gave me a headache and stretched and never kept my mouth shut. I found all I really needed was just to keep my jaw from falling open. I also never tape when my nose is congested.
I am a sight to behold at night. CPAP, sleep mask, nose strip and mouth tape. Doesn't get any more glamorous than that. Unless you have the chin strap.

Re: Question for everyone about tape
Face preparation before taping is very important.
A clean face is easier to stick tape to; but get it too clean and you could lose skin.
I like a baby wipe (unscented) --just a quick wipe, no rubbing, and let it dry.
If your face is very delicate, a coat of Pepto, allowed to dry and mostly wiped off,
affords some protection. Of course, my skin is unusually moist for my age.
