I use a full face mask and 2 months into therapy I started opening my mouth. My pressure settings are 15-18, and I would wake up in PAIN with my mouth so very D*R*Y!!!!
I purchased a head strap that I am wearing in addition to the full face mask, and I feel I have discovered the wheel. The strap is not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I sleep thru the whole night most nights, and no more dry mouth!!!!!!
Did you consider a head strap?
Good Luck with your invention, stay safe!

Couple more updates:
1. I replaced the foam with material cut from a silicone baking mat:

2. I am trying a different type of nylon strap (which seems pretty much similar):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NH4POY
3. IMPORTANT: I was getting a pretty bad sore throat every day, so I cut some small holes (about the size of a single CPAP mask exhaust hole) into the silicone. I'm not sure if this helps because of the pressure (when I close my mouth off it can now escape) or the humidity, or something else, but my sore throat has mostly gone away. I put 1 hole in one but it gets blocked too easily, so I put 2 holes in the other one.

I feel like I am finally (after 9 months) getting effective CPAP therapy.

I tried 2 different head straps and several ACE bandages. Keeping my mouth closed does not prevent the leak. Also one of the commercial ones gave me wicked headaches.beachbummer wrote:Did you consider a head strap?

Very interesting, Moose. Have you contacted a patent attorney yet?
