What is Clear Airway Apneas?

Is Clear Airway Apnea, as seen in Encore Viewer the same as Central Apnea, or is it something else? I can't seem to find an answer on my own to what CA's actually are.

Re: One side of nose stuffed/clogged up each night.

Do you use these filters in addition to the incoming air filters? I have 2 cpap machines and they both have a carbon black filter (looks like a black sponge) and a white hepa type allergen filter for the air intake. If the air is cleaned coming in, how would it get contaminated going out? Maybe its...

Re: One side of nose stuffed/clogged up each night.

I've been on a CPAP for almost 4 months now. I have had problems with one nostril being stuffed for many, many years. I used to sleep on my side, and the side of my nose closest to the pillow would always be the one stuffed up. Even when I slept on my back, one side or the other would stuff up. I pu...

Re: What is your CPAP pressure?

I was prescribed a range of 9-15. Through a series of trial and error tests, I found that 11-15 works best for me with Auto set to 2. Now I am trying the machine on straight cpap at 12.5 and have added a bacteria filter. This is still a work in progress. Have been on straight CPAP for only 2 days. A...

Re: AHI of 6 (hypopnea only)

Remember that an AHI of 6 means you are potentially having an arousal every 10 minutes. Yes it's not as severe as someone having an arousal every minute or more but it's still difficult to get a decent nights sleep when you are aroused approximately every 10 minutes. Personally my AHI for last night...

Re: Your Choice, your Vote

Wow those of you attacking Gazhacks, sort of make his point. He only made a survey, didn't even voice his opinion. I have to say I come here for CPAP talk, not politics or religion. If I want that I will go somewhere else.

Re: Thank You CPAP talkers! Weekly Average AHI down to 1.3

Yeap, we think we're doing great, everything is under control, and then we hit a night like last night. I can't tell you how many times I woke up during the night. Pretty well knew the numbers were going to be bad when I finally got up. Last night was a 4.3. I too like to keep the AHI down around 2 ...

Re: Nasal Spray & AHI

RobySue has an incredible blog and addresses this issue http://adventures-in-hosehead-land.blogspot.com/2011/06/nasal-congestion-and-problems-with-cpap.html I recommend you take a look at it. I have been on CPAP for 3 months, and have had nasal congestion long before I started on CPAP. But since I'v...

Re: Thank You CPAP talkers! Weekly Average AHI down to 1.3

Thanks for the replies and advice. I don't think I'd want to go for 0.0, as you said it is more than likely unreachable on a regular basis. I only raised the minimum to 11.5 last week. I am just hoping to find a level that will keep me at 1.x. I did hit a 0.1 once. Pretty exciting stuff! After raisi...

Re: dirty filter cause headaches?

I usually clean my hose, mask, foam filter, and headgear once a week. A few weeks ago, I was feeling a bit lazy, and skipped a week. A few days later I started waking up with a headache every morning. This continued until the weekend when I once again cleaned my gear. I did not replace the fine whit...

Re: boiling stuff

I was planning on replacing my nasal pillows tonight. So after reading this thread, I thought "what the heck". So grabbed old nasal pillows, I was going to throw away anyhow, and have them boiling now. Will post tomorrow and let everyone know how it went. What I've noticed is that the pillows get to...

Thank You CPAP talkers! Weekly Average AHI down to 1.3

I have been on CPAP since Nov 21, 2011, almost 3 months. And I was obsessing about the numbers. My weekly average AHI was in the 2.X - 3.X range. Some nights my AHI was as high as 8. So I searched though the posts here, and found out how to get the information to adjust my settings. I started out sl...

Re: Did you feel instantly better?

I started PAP therapy on November 21, 2011. I was diagnosed with severe OSA, AHI was around 64, and my longest time without breathing was 70+ seconds. That really scared me, so I was highly motivated to make the therapy work. My sleep study was on a Sunday night. I knew I would have trouble sleeping...

Re: No More

I totally relate to the "too good to be true" I have been on my CPAP for 30 days. I look forward to sleep. I still have a bit of a problem falling asleep, but once I do, I sleep very well. I usually wake up once during the night for a bathroom break. Earlier this week I slept an entire 7.5 hours for...
