Re: asv machines
I think it is worth pointing out the PRS1 950 for $300 is a good deal, provided it doesn't have a huge number of hours on it, and has been kept out of a smoking environment. The machine has never been in contact with the patient, other than control knobs, and I would not worry about it being "infec...

Re: My ASV settings vs. ABPAP settings?
... I thought part of the reason for being on a ABPAP or ASV was the comfort and toleration. ... Ugh! Your medical team should make a SPECIFIC recommendation based upon your symptoms. If you have central sleep apnea or some variant, such as complex (or mixed) sleep apnea, then you should have the A...

Re: asv machines
I use the PR System One Model 50 ASV unit. It's one drawback is that it beeps like mad if the pressure can not be maintained. It means you need to either use a Q Tip head to muffle the beeper, or learn how to avoid large leaks from your mask. Otherwise it is a great unit. It's allowing me to get a g...

Re: been on new PR ASV machne a week ahi going up
Greetings! My neurologist / sleep specialist put it very succinctly. The algorithm for the PR System One ASV is designed to encourage the patient to breathe as much as possible. Not until it is clear that intervention is required does the PR System One ASV unit intervene. The thought is that helps e...

Re: Cheyne-Stokes Respiration -- When to go to ASV machine?
Personally, in your shoes I would discuss what you just posted with my doctor. If the periodic breathing is a concern for you, I would ask your doctor if it might be time to consider ASV therapy. Remember, of course, that some doctor's greatly distrust the machine data. I would provide such sample g...

Re: first night on PR60 ASV a few questions.
I've been on CPAP / BiPAP / ASV for over 25 years. .. I've learned a thing or two about PAP therapy. My number one lesson? Don't worry about the AHI value. Worry about the QUALITY of sleep. Did you sleep well? If so, don't worry if the AHI was 6 or zero. Above a certain point, it will cause poor sle...

Re: Doc told me most people aren't interested in data
I'm fortunate. My doctor goes over sample data that I bring. I know I'm doing well. The data shows it. If it didn't, we would both know a follow up sleep study was in order.

Re: Mission Trip/Roughing it/TSA
Power strip is okay, but I find an extension cord with several outlets better. Unless your machine has a grounded plug you can just use a two prong extension cord with a few outlets on the end. It's more compact, can power more than one thing and can reach from the outlet to where you sleep. I've fo...

Re: What causes us to mouth breathe?
Awwww... Come on, folks! It's obvious why we mouth breathe? You see, my pappy always told me my mouth hangs open so I can catch some flies! .. Seriously, your jaw muscle tends to relax when you fall asleep. That tendency gets more pronounced as we age. Since there's a larger airway through the mouth...

Re: sao2 low of 82
Yeah, I've had both SpO2 and SaO2 studies done. As you note, SpO2 is the clamp over the finger. It does okay, but really does not accurately measure what's getting to the extremities. The SaO2 study is done by drawing blood from an artery in the wrist. OUCH!! You mention your mother is overweight. I...

Re: Does PSMin on a ASV help with OSA too?
ASV units have a dizzying array of settings. This can make it very, very difficult for a new user to get the settings correctly set to address their symptoms. If you need a CPAP unit, you would be better served if you purchased a CPAP or BiPAP unit. Just my humble opinion. I'ld rather see you spend ...

Re: Got my new ASV 960!
Sadly too many respiratory therapists have no clue on how to set up these devices. I also had to change the settings on any ASV unit I've received from my DME. Based on the price they SHOULD get it right. But they just don't deal with that many of these units.

One big problem with centrals can be the night-to-night variation, I understand. Occasional good nights and occasional bad nights seem to be the rule. The system of a one-night diagnostic study doesn't seem to work so well with people with varying central tendencies, I don't think. I think a bigger...

Re: Always sleeping help me out MSA+OSA
What is MSA NAND CIC? If I knew I might be able to suggest something. MSA is Multiple Systems Atrophy Unfortunately, this is a degenerative neurological issue that often rapidly progresses (from initial diagnosis to death is often five to ten years). MSA typically impacts the autonomic nervous syst...
