Re: Just decided taping is unsafe
I agree. you will eventually learn to keep your mouth shut, some of us take longer tha others. "Some" (perhaps many) are able to eventually to keep the tongue in a sealing position. With or without the mouth actually closed. It's the tongue inside the mouth that's the key to preventing CPAP air fro...

Re: I'm a light sleeper and my boyfriend needs CPAP
The new high quality machines are nearly silent. Most of any noise heard is mask noise from inhale and exhale and the venting of the air that escapes out the vent holes. Some masks are "noisier" than others. So don't worry too much about the noise. What little sound there is will be much less than ...

Re: What exactly is a troll?
Most of the time, people I've seen called "trolls" on here were not trolls at all - imho. They were simply people who had an opinion (often strongly and/or repeatedly expressed) that was different from that of the majority of active posters. They also often were people who had suddenly appeared on t...

Re: Tape
There are risks to anything in life. Including the risk of not being able to use CPAP at all, if a comfortable mask cannot be found. In order to use the types of masks (nasal pillows) that allow me to sleep comfortably, I have used tape over my mouth for the past 7 years or more. Every night. LINKS ...

I seldom have to use a FF mask, but when I do, the mask you mentioned, Sheriff is the one I find most comfortable.Sheriff Buford wrote:try the Philips Fitlife Total Face mask.

Re: Fifth night. Heated hose needed?
Until others jump in to give their suggestions, here's a link to tons of old posts that might give you some ideas. Me..., yeah, I'd go straight for a heated hose. Been using a stand-alone heated hose for years. Love it. Besides preventing rainout (which isn't a problem you're having) it does keep th...

Re: Now with a reduced Flex setting
And yet when I had a REM percentage of 22.4, it was considered to be a decreased proportion. I guess that's where my age comes into what's normal. The almost 21% REM that guy had, and your 22.4% REM aren't that far off from 25% REM. Heck, "24.9" would probably be called a " decreased proportion " w...

First I'd like to know it there's a list somewhere of all those acronyms. In addition to the cpap wiki link Pugsy posted, you can find many of the acronyms at these places: Common abbreviations and definitions: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=14902 "Learning lexicon of cpap terms" Sleep Stu...

Re: BiPap...VPAP....heated hose..Experiments
Flex settings do not drop the exhale pressure significantly at all.. Certainly nothing like BiLevel machines will do. Right. On both counts. a setting of 3 in any Flex isn't necessarily "more" relief...just different relief. I always tell people to try all the settings to see which one feels the be...

Re: Two Year Anniversary, Lessons Learned
Congratulations on the two year anniversary of using CPAP, newhosehead. Thanks for coming back to post that good, good advice. What you said about how other things can be causing a person to not feel great after getting on CPAP is soooo important. As you said, CPAP can be doing its part of the job p...

Re: My DME Horror Story
Welcome to the forum, Firekeeper. I think many times the DME employees are not that "up" on the names of the machines or what each machine actually does. As long as a machine can record "compliance" (hours used), that's all the DME cares about -- in order to have insurance or Medicare keep paying th...
