Re: Home Sleep Test or Sleep Lab?

My Lab has a home screener that we offer free of charge. If it has positive findings, then we do the in lab sleep study. I have seen other labs charge several hundred dollars for using the home screener.. I believe in helping out where I can and the Home Screener is paid off, so no need for me to ch...

Re: AHI and blood oxgen saturation

Sleepmba: Wonder if you would comment on the results, generally, of sleep studies AFTER CPAP/APAP begins; AND, why, generally, do we not see more folks being prescribed supplemental O2 during the night when their SaO2 drops below the 90% mark? My SaO2, for example, regularly drops down into the 80'...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

There is also dreaming in NREM. Did this "dream" depict "normal" stuff? I didn't realize we dreamt in NREM. Huh. Yes, well all my dreams are usually quite bizarre. I would define most of my dreams as sci fi/alternate reality. Weird. Things are never as they seem--the laws of physics need not apply....

Re: Is total face as effective as full face?

I've been using the total face Fitlife for about two weeks so my nose can heal up from my ffm mirage quatro. I really like it. It redirects the air away from your eyes. the only issue I have, is side sleeping with it. where the top straps connect to the mask, they stick out a bit so the second I rol...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

so I checked with a few other techs a different sleep labs in the area and none of them would ever do more than a 4 split difference on Bi-level. I think that tech just read the rule wrong or understood it differently? The only time we do more of a split is for COPD patients so they can exhale alot ...

Re: In the family?

My sister comes in tomorrow night for her sleep study. She is absolutely sure she does not have apnea but her doctor in Alaska thinks she may have something going on that is causing her to lose sleep or not get into all the sleep stages. so we shall soon find out! I may be adding another family memb...

Re: Hey, you experts exactly HOW do you perform lab titrations?

Big daddy said it all, just want to re enforce that a titration can be very hard, trying to use CPAP, then maybe trying some bi-level, then possibly back to CPAP with some oxygen bleed in. There is alot that can go into a titration. This is one of the hardest things to teach a new sleep tech how to ...

Re: clogged nasal passages and claustraphobia. Which mask helps?

Ive had two types of claustrophobics in the lab. The one type cant stand a full face mask because part of the mask is between their eyes and they cant stand this. The other feel like the mask is going to suffocate them. For the most part once the CPAP is turned on the person feels better because the...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

Are you talking about the new rules the American Academy of Sleep handed down? I understand what they mean by raising top pressure for hypopneas and bottom for obstructives....BUT you still have to keep a closer split ( usually a 4 split 11/7) the new rules stated things such as how soon to raise pr...

Re: Snoring ??? Need some help here.

I often raise the pressure during titrations just for snoring. No apnea events, just the snore. When I brought my machine home, I started snoring about a month later, so I raised my pressure a couple and now do not snore and feel awsome!. Define "I rasied my pressure a couple" From what to what ???...

Re: Snoring ??? Need some help here.

[quote="Wulfman"]Snoring CAN be independent from apnea/hypopnea conditions. Said a different way, you can snore and not have apneas and hypopneas. If they continue to be an "issue" (to those who sleep with you), usually a little extra pressure can decrease their occurrences. Since they occur on the ...

Re: Wow, Crazy Polysom Results, Folks!

If I'm wrong about this, someone correct me. I thought alpha is an EEG pattern, sometimes called "resting", that most people pass through between fully awake and stage 1NREM. Is there a meaningful distinction to be made between an arousal to 1NEM, an arousal to fully awake, and an arousal to the al...
