Re: CPAP - Day 4

That Tylenol PM may not be the best choice if you need something to help you sleep. It contains acetaminophen (regular Tylenol pain reliever) and diphenhydramine (an antihistamine -- the active ingredient in Benedryl) which has sleepiness as a side effect. According to a psychiatrist I have spoken w...

Re: New APAP User

Being cautious, I only changed the pressure settings to min 8 max 20.

Last nights results:

Pressure: 11.6
Leak 0.62 l/s
AHI: 18.5
AI: 9.7
HI: 8.8

So, AHI is a bit better, but leak is worse, and the overall pressure is just a bit higher.

I will bump up the minimum pressure a bit more tonight.

If you click on user contol panel (below the cpaptalk.com logo) you will find a tab for private messages.

You will also find a place where you can enter your equipment so that it appears at the end of each post. Display it in text format. This helps others help you.

Re: New Aussie Heated Hose - Have questions about it

The resistance of the coil in the hose (which cannot be changed and the voltage of the adapter determine the current that will flow. Voltage(in volts) / Resistance(in ohms) = Current(in amps) The current rating of the adapter is only important in that it is sufficient to supply the amount of current...

Re: Do errors damage the credibility of the writer

Charmin is a major brand of toilet paper. Mr. Whipple was used in advertisements for the product for many years, but not recently.

The Charmin was so soft that he could not resist squeezing it -- hence the line "please don't squeeze the Charmin."

It will help if you go to User Control Panel (link below the cpaptalk.com logo) and enter your equipment so that it appears in each post. Choose to display it as text, because it is easier for others to tell what machine you have. But in general, may machines can be set to start automatically when t...

Re: I was waking up 174 times an hour

An AHI of 174 means that you were having an apnea or hypopnea almost 3 times per minute. It's hard to believe that the number could get much higher than that.

Re: Why a Prescription for XPap Machine?

Other than the medical industry wanting to be in the loop and collect money for PSGs, I'm not quite sure either. From what I've read, it's pretty difficult to harm onesself with an xPAP unless one has some pretty severe conditions, like end-stage COPD. And compared to the harm from not treating OSA ...

Re: MIRAGE SWIFT LT QUALITY POLL--Update 6/12 RESMED'S REPLY

Wonderful. I just started APAP (a whole 2 nights) and the Swift LT has been working well so far. I thought that I was lucky, but now I feel that I may not be able to depend on this mask in the future. Is there a way to tell if I have one of the older or newer pillows? My medium pillow has the number...

Re: New APAP User

I forgot to mention that although I had a diagnostic PSG (AHI=43), I opted to forgo a titration PSG and use an APAP instead to save money. (The one PSG I did have was free via a research study, but lucky me got randomized to a non-cpap treatment group.) I have been losing weight, so my true AHI may ...

New APAP User

I have used my APAP for two nights now. The first night I kept it on for 4 hours, and the second night for 7. It is set for 5-20 cm H20 with EPR off. I am surprised at how quiet the machine is. I woke up several times each night and made adjustments and went back to sleep. I am having difficulty und...

Re: At home sleep strip showed no apnea, should I do a pulse ox?

Is anyone around to observe your sleep?

People with obstructive sleep apnea typically stop breathing for periods of 10 sec. or more, and restart breathing with a gasp.

If you have these symptoms, you should talk to your primary doc about getting a sleep study post haste.
