Re: About to be CPAP free!
Just saying, you cant possibly "give up" that easily. This therapy isn't easy for anybody. There are multiple reasons for apnea, and you have to "be your own doctor" to an extent. Me for example, my apnea is caused by my throat muscles collapsing, NOT TONGUE ISSUES. And a narrow airway. Have you tri...

Food Allergies, MSG, Gluten and Periodic Breathing
Every time I get hold of some MSG (monosodium glutamate, "the Chinese allergy")----and theyre putting it in ALL KINDS of food including WENDYS and KFC-------I get bad numbers the next morning. From my studies, it shows that food allergies like that can be a delayed response. My periodic breathing us...

Re: Can my new mask be the cause of my awful migraine?
Agreed it COULD cause it but rule everything out first.
Don't forget causality: you could be experiencing other problems such as eating an allergen before sleeping,
or reflux causing problems.
This is all integrated.

Re: Bipap problems
Hang in there. IM glad youre on top of monitoring potentially serious health problems. Rule that out first. Bipap like anything else is an art form. Small changes can be big. Experience counts. Those pressures sound so high, can you work up instead of working down? I adjust my own, but I can tell yo...

Head Cold: AHI Skyrocketed
Don't get sick much, but nasty head cold last night. No way to unstuff it, and too late to run out for Theraflu. Stuck my full face on and woke up 2 hours later gasping a bit. Immediate check on the bilevel: "5" so far. Cold was abating a bit, and returned to sleep, and woke up with 3.5. I average 1.5

Late Sleep Cycle Cluster Events: Strategies?
I love this board, as its the first place i learned 1. Most people here know more about apnea than their doctors do 2. Its not the "average AHI" but rather how you FEEL next day and preventing major clusters In my case , I can take a nap during the day one hour without machine (NOT RECOMMENDED! but ...

Re: Why don't they just give you a BiPAP from the start?
1. Money. They want to give you a brick that you have to upgrade. 2. Money. You may never need a bipap. 3. Money. They also give you the cheapest mask to newbies that they can get away with generally. 4. Money. They need to give you oximetry capable equipment--its essential for anyone beyond "modera...

New Bipap User: Conundrum: Centrals Vs. VSNORE
I'll keep this simple. Switched to bilevel, system one, setting 15/11, mirage quattro mask (perfect fit). Snoring problems pretty much gone but periodic breathing up, and non obstructives up. Cant really monkey with the settings anymore and self treat since the Cl. Clinic is getting the data on the ...

What is your plan to keep off the weight?
Most people gain it back, I know I did when i got to ideal weight a few years ago.

Re: What questions do you wish you asked starting therapy?
Mainly, WHAT is causing my own personal apnea by your best guess? Thick neck? Tongue rolling back? Muscles aging that support airway? Overweight? Centrals or periodic breathing? Delta wave issues? Staying asleep to get into all cycles? Medications interfering? Panic attacks? Desaturations? Small air...

Re: can't breathe
1. Humidity. Too much? 2. Heat? If the water is full of hot air, its going to be very stuffy. I usually run "drive by" air, not heated 3. Cool the room itself WAY down. 4. Filter clogged? 5. Lost weight? Need a reduction in pressure? 6. Are you breathing from your sternum area or farther down for a ...

BiPap Back-Sleeping Lowers AHI For Some?
Hi guys, Im now on the Respironics 660P bipap through Cleveland Clinic---settings 15/11. They got it set on x3 for maximum exhalation relief and the machine is automatically transmitting data via AT&T to CC although im still using the SD card to run my nightlies through sleepyhead. Best snoring device? & "Adams Apple" Snoring?
Im technically compliant on my 550p apap with fulllface mask. But no matter what i do I cannot stop the snoring. Ive ramped the pressure up which causes more leaks. I even snore while sleeping on my stomach. Anybody found relief? I have a walmart football mouthpiece that seems to bring my jaw forwar...
