Re: S9 AutoSet Quirky data question
There have been many reports of the flow data being skewed from the event data--I've never heard it being as long as 2 hours, but still seems conceivable. You did the right thing to unplug and such, but the skew will likely be back again later. All evidence suggests that this is just a data recordin...

Re: Please Help! MY plan to end my CPAP nightmare!
Chris--many people have issues adjusting to CPAP, as you know, and often it's related to the mask they are using, and sometimes due to inappropriate pressure. What I'm reading in your message is that your primary issue is the "stigma" that OSA is a disease for overweight, out-of-shape people. As you...

Re: Poll: What sleeping position/mask/pillow works for you?
3) Most sleep on their sides. I have a real question about this - my shoulder ALWAYS hurts after about an hour sleeping on my side. Where are you putting your arms and hands to enable sleeping on the side without it hurting? I've tried multiple pillows so that some of the weight of my head is off m...

Re: Pressur lakage.
(deleted post relating to Resmed--I though Pugsy was addressing the original poster) Not sure if the F&P machines take into account expected mask vent rate, but if not, then 25-30 is the expected vent rate for the Activa for a pressure of 8.5. So, that would be what is expected. Resmed machines take...

Re: Pressur lakage.
Yes... if you leave the machine running with the mask off, it will count as a very large leak. So, if you are trying to get an accurate picture of your leak, I would suggest turning it off for the bathroom breaks.

Re: Need advice from Resmed SoftGel users
You mentioned trying the Activa LT cushion and said you didn't like it, but I would encourage you to give it another try (presuming you still have it). It is designed to be worn much more loosely than the SoftGel, so loosen the bottom straps if you do try it. Then, after you put it on, pull on the "...

Re: NooB - 1st Night - Success - Help w/ leak #s
Congratulations on a successful first night! Sounds like you will have no trouble at all adjusting to this. I wouldn't put too much mind to the leak just yet... 13.2 is still in the "acceptable" range (under 24), which is why you get the smiling face. Basically, the machine can compensate for leak u...

Re: Poll: What sleeping position/mask/pillow works for you?
I tried all sorts of different pillows... Tempurpedic, PapPillow, foam, and ultimately came back to a standard pillow not really understanding why I thought I needed a special pillow in the first place.

Re: Is there hope to do it without CPAP?
"alternative treatment" usually means not scientifically validated and/or based on pseudo-science. From what I can tell from this blog, the author only knows of people who say these techniques work.... my question is... how did you validate these results? Did these participants have sleep studies be...

Re: First Nite w/ S9 but Exhale Sound... Normal?
Yes... many S9 owners report the wheeze on exhale--it seems to be normal. I don't notice it on mine, but I also have a fan running for white noise. Regarding data, you won't find anyone here who thinks that you should only view it as something for the doctor... many of us use the data ourselves to e...

Resmed's website has some information on their central apnea detection that you might find interesting: http://www.resmed.com/us/products/s9_series/enhanced-autoset.html?nc=dealers "It uses the forced oscillation technique (FOT) to determine the state of the airway during an apnea. When an apnea is ...

Re: Switched my machine to Auto
Welcome to the forum brentm77, and good for you for taking control of your own treatment! I too, find that I have better AHI and sleep better using APAP instead of CPAP. You'll want to get the software, which will depend on what machine you have... so be sure to fill in that info in your profile and...

Re: Why Do Sleep Pros Dislike Auto-titrating Machines?
When I finished my sleep study, the tech told me that the doctor would probably prescribe APAP because he was not able to titrate during the study (it was a split night and I didn't sleep much with the mask on). He said that they would then have me come back in a couple of months to look at my data ...
