Re: Hospital respiratory folks: you gotta love 'em

FWIW, my bro goes to a major metro hospital (as opposed to smaller or rural) and I always set up his bipap before I leave. They didn't know how to attach his heated hose and gave him a generic one the first time. Also, it helps to use a Sharpie to CLEARLY mark the water line and write 'water line' ...

Re: Hospital respiratory folks: you gotta love 'em

Well that certainly doesn't give one much confidence. Hope your hubby is doing ok. Much better Kathy, thank you As you know hubby and I met about five years ago on this very forum (coming up on 2nd Anniversary in a few days!). We’ve both been faithful CPAP users even though we have each struggled w...

Re: Mouth Taping

I find the Micropore PAPER version to be the most comfortable and breathable, yet it still sticks incredibly well. Then again, I'm a guy and have been shaving my whole life so ladies might have a different experience. I've been using the paper tape for six years and it works really well. But lazurm...

Hospital respiratory folks: you gotta love 'em

So DH was unexpectedly hospitalized this past weekend. Despite that it was 3:00 in the morning when they finally took him from the ER to the hospital in the next town over, I dutifully went home for his CPAP machine and drove it to the hospital after the ambulance transported him. The hospital sent ...

Re: getting off CPAP

J - Some docs including mine have advised their patients to sleep several nights without the CPAP before having a sleep study. It's a highly debatable recommendation and many here vehemently disagree with the recommendation. It's based on the idea that there's some 'holdover' benefit with CPAP such ...

Re: Need advice--I think my 78 year old father has sleep apnea

My 91 year old mother was diagnosed a couple of months ago, and so far she's giving the CPAP a good go. I think the medical crisis that preceded her finally agreeing to a sleep study was a motivating factor. She's disappointed that she doesn't feel better, but she's soldiering on with the CPAP -- fo...

They're not stuck -- they stay in the Outbox until the recipient opens them. Then you'll see them in the Sent Messages folder.

Re: Horrible dry mouth

I had the same issue and had to learn to keep my tongue plastered to the roof of my mouth all night, to keep the air going down my airway and not into my mouth. Otherwise, I'd get the dreaded "chipmunk cheeks" with air filling my mouth and leaking out through slightly parted lips, or periodically sh...

Re: Dry mouth and gum issues with CPAP therapy

Dry mouth *is* a common side effect of CPAP therapy, even if not all CPAP users experience it. There are of course ways to deal with it (extra humidification, dry mouth gel, avoiding sweets, improving dental hygiene, avoiding mouth breathing...) that can help protect the teeth and gums. In the 6+ ye...

Dry mouth gel

Just passing this along – hubby just started using Spry Dry Mouth Gel and says it's helpful and doesn't taste bad at all. It was given to me by my dental hygienist but I don't like the "slime" feeling of gel, so I gave it to hubby to try. He's using a mouth guard with his CPAP, so like many of us he...

Re: anxiety to masks and the forced air

I do not have the machine to do this YET so I can't "play around" with anything. In order for insurance to let me get it, I have to have the sleep study which requires this air in my face. See my conundrum? I do see your conundrum. What I'd do in your situation: Call the sleep clinic and ask for a ...
