Re: ResMed H4I Hummidifier question

Warm water can breed a lot of things. The air from the machine is filtered, so the amount of crap in the air is greatly reduced. We basically breath crap all day, so it probably doesn't hurt to subject yourself to the possibility of breathing a little bit of crap during the night. I find I get a psy...

Re: ResScan UnderReporting or SmartLink OverReporting or ?

DHC Keep in mind that in the sleep lab the AHI is scored using a number of parameters. One of those parameters is air flow. The xPAP units only look at air flow and try to extrapolate from that. In the sleep lab, I believe everything hinges upon arousal's. If your sleep is interrupted by an arousal,...

Re: recording pulse oximeter

LoQ, I checked my unit over several different saturation levels and it remained accurate. You can simulate a desaturation below 90% by exhaling and holding your breath for 40 - 45 seconds. If you hunch over and compress your diaphragm area and breath slow and shallow, you can reduce your O2 level to...

Re: recording pulse oximeter

Bob, I am using the CMS50SE. It came with software. It is a finger tip unit and it takes some practice to keep it on your finger while you sleep. It can be done, but a wrist mounted unit may be easier to keep on all night. When you receive your unit, be sure to check it against paramedic, hospital, ...

Re: Low AHI, High snore index and flow limitation

Dave, It may be worthwhile to try to figure out how they determine snoring from air flow... Unless that machine has a microphone that actually records the snoring sound. Your snoring may be something else and if you can figure out how the machine scores snoring you may be able to determine what is r...

Re: CMS 50E showing O2 increases?

Jonquiljo, Who says those are anomalies. Perhaps they are normal. A good way to look at this is to consider driving your car. A while back digital speedometers were the new thing. The first ones were a royal pain because they fluctuated a lot. We think that we are driving at 60 mph, but the gauge wa...

Re: CMS 50E showing O2 increases?

As I understand it... When looking at a O2 saturation chart you are looking for several things. One is the "sawtooth" pattern, another is the magnitude of the desaturation, and another is the time frame over which the event occurred. In addition, you are looking for around a 15 - 20% change in heart...

Re: Beyond xPAP... What's next?

Linda, I love your avitar... Sorry about that, I thought the selection was ResMed. I have changed it. My sleep study indicated: # of Apneas & Hypopneas: 146 AHI: 29.9 NREM AHI: 29.0 REM AHI: 35.1 All Respiratory Events: 250 RDI: 51.2 Min SpO2%: 76.0 Mean SpO2%: 96.5 As I mentioned earlier, my main c...

Re: Beyond xPAP... What's next?

Janknitz, Perhaps your assumptions are off... I have verified the performance of my pulse oximeter with those used in the hospital. It also was in good agreement with the sleep labs with the exception of the one desaturation event. I stated that my unit lost signal during that event. The rest of my ...

Re: Beyond xPAP... What's next?

Emilia, The initial range on the APAP was 4 - 20. After having several "run aways" while on APAP, I switched it to CPAP. With help from my cardiologist I self titrated to eliminate desaturations. I ended up with a pressure of 10.5. My sleep study did not involve any use of xPAP. I do have a copy of ...

Re: Resmed VPAP Auto 25 PROBLEM

I have a different ResMed machine, but in the APAP mode have experienced several "run aways." It may have something to do with the way ResMed interprets the pressure data. I was able to determine that the ramp up to full pressure occurred after a leak had developed. It is supposed to ramp back down ...

Beyond xPAP... What's next?

Obstructive sleep apnea responds well to the PAP treatment, but it seems that sleep disorders often go beyond simply making sure your blood oxygen levels are adequate. I have noticed that several people respond well to simply using PAP treatment, but then there are a whole bunch of others that feel ...
