Re: Cpap blows air into stomach
UPDATE: New sleep study results (I did anchor my tongue with a piece of natural licorice bark, and I am 40lbs lighter than last study.) AHI: 2 (Down from 4.9) Non-specific arousals: 23 (Down from 218) My RDI during REM sleep (of 40 minutes) is 12. That would be concerning, except that I happened to ...

Re: Mental Health Improve?
Yes. Big improvement in mental health. I resisted anti-depressants for years until I became totally disabled and living with a relative. I was convinced I had sleep apnea and not depression. I finally got a sleep study when I agreed to take a prescription for an anti-depressant and think about it, b...

Re: AHI 5.7, positional sleep apnea- no CPAP?
My sleep doc and my sleep psychologist say that needing up to 10 hours of sleep per night is normal. Totally unfair that some people need 6 and others need 10. But still considered normal. Just FYI.

Re: Device to keep tongue to roof of mouth?
The whole idea of doing a sleep test, is to find out if you have Sleep Apnea, identify the causes and how bad the results, then come up with the best solution. Masking the problem may make the solution harder to find. Jim Mouthbreathing is one of the things they should be looking for, if they did t...

Re: Teeth Clenching & CPAP Newbie
This morning I got out of bed and cried. I had a bad, sleepless night. The mask and the pressure was making me crazy and couldn't get to sleep! Very dry nose/throat one hour (woke me up)....very wet nose and fluttering noise (rain?) the next hour (woke me up).....pressure up to 12 next hour and cou...

Re: Device to keep tongue to roof of mouth?
I just use my Brain, I position my tongue forward behind my upper front teeth, suck a light vacuum in mouth to hold. Practice, practice, practice, if you do it enough your brain will rewire to do it in your sleep. Jim It takes effort, but costs nothing, nothing in your mouth that doesn't belong the...

Re: Problems with my current doctor
:!: My sleep doctor just informed me that I need another sleep study because he only deals with CPAP and not anything else. He directly said that you should only be on auto Pap or BiPAP for a month and CPAP is what should be used . He said this is why have so many problems. He said no pap and auto ...

Re: redness on bridge of nose
They have masks now that go over your mouth, but the cushion part has an opening that rests on the bottom of your nose.

Yeah. It's a weird thing when you do something in your sleep that can injure you, but you can't stop doing it! I like your word, "Power Clenching".

Re: Cpap blows air into stomach
After studying my sleep studies more closely, I talked to Doc about getting off PAP, and even calling my OSA diagnosis "resolved" in my medical record. Interesting conversation. BACKGROUND 2008 Sleep Study: AHI 3.5 RDI 19.3 Prescribed PAP for the RDI and my excessive daytime fatigue. I was happy tha...

Re: Teeth Clenching & CPAP Newbie
EDIT: Medicare wants a usage report after 90 days, not 30. And they have extensions and helps if you're having trouble. Just in case they forgot to tell you, the insurance (for sure Medicare) is going to want a compliance report after 30 days. They want to see that you're using the machine most of t...

Re: Teeth Clenching & CPAP Newbie
Any clenchers out there who have had success alleviating it with CPAP??? I am a clencher too. (Not a grinder.) I have heard that one possible cause of clenching is trying to open the airway. Never figured out how that worked. CPAP did not make me stop clenching. I do believe I have stopped clenchin...
