Re: So what now?

Since your AHI is fine, you are postulating that maybe there are arousals that are not being flagged. I don't know but since you are searching, you should look carefully. Sleepyhead shows every breath. If you have UARS then the treatment is pressure. Have you tried CPAP at higher pressure? And I do...

Re: So what now?

If your AHI is low when using PAP AND you are sleeping soundly when using PAP, then your issue is no longer due to OSA. Simple. Your treated AHI is relatively low. Previously you questioned whether spontaneous arousals was your problem. Did you reach a conclusion? The only thing that begins to make...

So what now?

After a long and frustrating four months on CPAP with no relief from my mild (7.5 AHI) OSA, I've set my minimum pressure to the highest 20cm. I don't have any issues with the pressure and sleep through the night without any discomfort. I don't have aerophagia, I don't remove my mask, I fall asleep q...

Sounds to me like you need to try a higher min. pressure setting as symptoms are all those of untreated OSA.
I've moved my min up from 11 to 18 to absolutely no effect

How reliable is CPAP's sleep report?

My Resmed Airsense 10 reports an AHI of 1.5-3 every morning. According to a titration study, the current settings bring my AHI down to a 1. When I asked my doctor why my AHI in the study was so much lower than what my CPAP reports, he explained that the events it was flagging didn't exist and that m...

Why shouldn't you always use the maximum CPAP pressure?

If it isn't causing central apneas and isn't causing any aerophagia discomfort, why shouldn't you just set your CPAP to 20 cm and rest easy?

Re: Spontaneous Arousals

Are you new to using a CPAP machine? If so, it may take a few nights for your brain to get used to that alien thing sitting on your face every night. It is normal to have some awakenings every night. We normally awaken briefly after REM sleep. Several things can cause arousals in addition to apneas...

Spontaneous Arousals

My last sleep study showed effective control of my apnea under CPAP, with an AHI of ~1. There were, however, many brief arousals throughout the night that didn't have any coinciding apneas or hypopneas to explain them. I called and asked the doctor to review these arousals, and he couldn't tell if t...

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

Looking over my polysomnograph, it's likely that all those unaccounted-for arousals are RERAs. Since my study didn't measure/look for RERAs that didn't qualify as apneas or hypopneas, they just appear as random spikes in wakefulness on the hypnogram. Sigh. I'll call and ask the doctor to reexamine it.

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

So there's nothing to be done about UARS? No, I didn't say that. What I said was you won't be able to gauge things IF (big IF) you have UARS from the data available from the machine. CPAP is still the go to treatment for UARS but people have to rely more on subjective how they feel than the data av...

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

In general, you should cap the high end of an AutoPAP lower than the machine max only if one of the following reasons: 1) You are experiencing Central Apneas under higher pressures that you did not experience under lower pressures. 2) You are experiencing discomfort (dry mouth, leaks, nasal discomf...

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

My CPAP usually reports an AHI of 3-5. My doctor told me that these "artifact" events are unrelated to me real AHI of 1. Could this be my CPAP reacting to UARS events? Dunno. These machines react to air flow/reductions or the signs of sleep apnea....flow limitations, snores, OAs and hyponeas that m...

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

Would it be worthwhile for me to share sleepyhead readouts from my CPAP? Please post a typical night detailed report. See here for what and how. http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html Maybe there's some little something there that might could be improved upon t...

Re: Sleep study proved CPAP is working, so why am I still so tired?

Look up the term "sleep debt", and relax a bit more. You need to find out how long your body REALLY needs you to be asleep, and build up to that amount every night. I don't know about that. My sleep architecture feels interrupted; I still wake up randomly at night and have overly vivid dreams that ...
