Re: AHI of 39.9 and officially OFF CPAP

It is very confusing and I guess the UK is different than other parts of the world with their guidelines but I'm really not certain. The clinicians at my hospital said at the start that mild apnea didn't put me in the category of CPAP, raster a dental piece and headstrap as someone mentioned althoug...

AHI of 39.9 and officially OFF CPAP

Hello, not being a regular contributor here but gaining lots of support and advice i thought it may be helpful to others. I began CPAP therapy in November 2017 after being diagnosed with Apnea and an AHI of 39.9. By no means was it as i expected, i found it hard to adapt to but the figures spoke for...

Re: Progress after 5 months - it's a rollercoaster but worth it!!!

Well that was a surprise and not a pleasant one. To those who actually know me (not many) my heritage is derived from a background where my family have joked and referred to my resemblance hence my comments. I'm not bigotted, and quite frankly i feel that not only was the initial commenter that bran...

Progress after 5 months - it's a rollercoaster but worth it!!!

Hello everyone, i'm sorry i haven't posted on here for a while and feel slightly guilty for it.. as they say, people with problems usually complain and i was one of them, but i felt it appropriate to detail some of my experiences to people new to CPAP like i am/was. The first 3 months to be honest w...

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

The DVLA only want you to be using the machine 4 hours a night. They don't even check effectiveness, so don't let the thought of them influence how you set your machine. Getting it right will increase compliance and improve your ahi, and this board was a huge help to me getting the benefit from a b...

Re: Air travel with cpap

In the UK my Sleep Doc at the hospital told me that if i go on holiday (which i am in March Woohoo!) i have to take my Cpap as carry on luggage. The machine states on the bottom that it's certified medical equipment.

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

Thanks to everyone for your words of advice and encouragement. It's clear to me now that it isn't unreasonable to expect me to take considerably longer than the 2 months that i've been on the treatment for me to be fully accustomed to it. I'm not going to pursue the surgery option and will concentra...

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

Hey, I know just how you feel. I, too, contemplated the trach - why not? Look, for me, it took me 2 years to get used to the therapy. Yup - 2 years. Now, I cannot sleep well without my mask. Still don't feel GREAT, but I definitely feel crappy if I do not use it. I have a Bi-pap machine. The contin...

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

I am UK based too, and safe to say the NHS is very much postcode lottery when it comes to sleep apnoea. Unsurprisingly! Which clinic are you with - I'm Edinburgh. When i adjusted my pressures i got knowing looks but no comments - they are not supposed to endorse us self managing, but the good staff...

Re: ready to quit! HELP!!!

Hello, i don't know if you read my previous reply however i do feel that based upon my own experience you would benefit from an Auto Cpap machine. I noticed from some of your pictures that you are in the USA and as such can only assume that you have to pay for your own machine? If so it would be mon...

Re: ready to quit! HELP!!!

I am 2 weeks into wearing my CPAP. Please tell me it gets better!!!! I toss a lot and the mask seems like it doesn't get a good suction and then makes vibrating noises on my face. When I get up finally in the morning.....I feel like I have had someone blow into my chest and mouth for hours like my ...

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

Hello, the moleskin has arrived today!! Do i cut it to a specific shape or just like a plaster (band aid)?? Just size to cover the sore area, a little bigger. I got by with a bandaid, your body will toughen up, then you won't need it. Don't over tighten the mask, set forehead support "T" to keep th...

Re: Ok, Enough's Enough.. Surgery Advice please :(

I have already posted what masks i have tried however i will do it again as previously i was addressing people individually so not everyone may have noticed. I'll also clarify my experiences 1) F&P Simplex Created a valley in the bridge of my nose. It was the Sleep Doc's suggestion to try another ma...

Ok, attempt number 2 at posting... As already mentioned i've tried all the masks available to me, a basic Philips Respironics full face, the Amara View, the Resmed Quattro and the current one being the Fisher & Paykel Oracle. All have had problems however i do find that the Quattro offers the best n...
