Re: ResMed versus Respironics

I am don't know if mine is working for me entirely. Only a month into therapy and still struggling to sleep, but not sure how much that has to do with me, the machine, or the mask. To my knowledge though, the machine is working as it should. All I've known in my 3+ years of therapy is the DreamStat...

Re: ResMed versus Respironics

Dreamstation Auto since new (all I've known), like it, quiet and easy to use. Nothing has really ever come up that I can think of for why I'd change. I count myself among the Lucky with my therapy. Same here with my DreamStation Auto. No beeping, comfortable airflow, so quiet you can hardly hear it...

Re: Routine endoscopic screening with known sleep apnea - accommodations?

I had an endoscopy under sedation one year ago with no problems. I was told my machine would not be necessary. When I alerted the anesthesiologist to my SA, she promised she would look after me. She kept her word. For my own peace of mind, my CPAP was in the car so that my husband could retrieve it ...

Re: OT...Last word/fight club thread...gloves are off

Fight club? Okay, I need to do some venting here. There are a couple of regulars (you know who you are, and I know you will throw barbs at me) who scare newbies away by turning a thread into a pi**ing contest. I was a newbie once and remember how intimidating XPAP therapy can be. I never aske...

Re: Appetite decrease because of APAP?

Someone told that not getting enough sleep also kinda of leaves your body "stressed" all the time and that this causes a hormone called cortisol to be released which in turn helps to cause hunger. Interesting. I had not heard of cortisol, but it could explain what was happening to me. I get the sam...

Re: Better sleep but less sleep since APAP

Hi pathogen. I had a similar experience, being super aware of the mask, the headgear, the tube, everything. At first, I also woke up a lot, fiddling with everything trying to get it just right. It took some time, but I did get used to it. Now I'm barely aware of the gear when I go to bed, and actual...

Re: Appetite decrease because of APAP?

Same here. When I don't get enough quality sleep, my stomach is upset, and it feels like hunger pangs. So I would eat, but the pangs wouldn't go away. Once I got my PAP settings fine tuned, the "hunger pangs" stopped, and I was able to control my eating. I lost a lot of weight and have kept it off. ...

Glad to hear you're feeling better. That's the most important thing, in my humble opinion.

Re: Titration study - what’s involved?

Sounds like it depends on your doctor/sleep lab. I started with the at-home test, which showed I had mild sleep apnea. Next was an overnight stay at the sleep lab at my local hospital. I was given a choice of full face, nasal mask, or pillows. Since I had no previous experience with masks, I chose t...
