Re: Wireless Monitoring Thoughts

Even though I own my CPAP machine (long story) I decided to go along with a recommendation that I try out a local company here after an overnight titration at a hospital, and so I'm currently using their loaner machine with wireless monitoring. I haven't found it at all invasive. To me, nightly moni...

Thanks to this forum

When I was diagnosed last year I googled sleep apnea forums and found myself here. I'm so happy that I did. I didn't post much during my most anxious periods, but just kept reading here daily. It served to reinforce how important getting PAP treatment is for OSA. No-one minced words. Even when my sl...

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.

Honestly, I fought XPAP at first. Maybe it's because I never felt unwell or tired from OSA and was very angry about having been diagnosed with it ... I follow a fairly healthy lifestyle and so it was a shock. The way that OSA is presented by the medical community definitely implies that OSA is partl...

Re: Be honest, how is your diet?

My diet is fairly low carb, lots of vegetables, nuts, moderate intake of high fat dairy like 10% plain yoghurt; eggs and of course, protein. I eat low carb tortillas or mung bean pasta (ie high fibre carbs) several times a week so that my body doesn't completely forget how to deal with carbs! So far...

Re: OT - Thanks to Janknitz and DreamStalker

I appreciate threads like this so much and just want to say thanks.

OSA and insulin resistance are "best friends", and since my diagnosis of OSA I'm acutely aware of this issue, and gobble up all the advice and info here on diabetes and glucose.

Re: OT: sort of - do you trust your doctor?

Well I must admit that my trust in doctors diminished when my dad developed jaundice with no pain at the age of 72, and his doctor diagnosed him with hepatitis. It wasn't until my dad had renal and liver failure and developed sepsis within the week of the onset of jaundice, that his doctor finally r...

Re: Trying CPAP on my own again

Hi KayakKid, For me the biggest break through was reading Mind over Mood by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky. This was recommended to me by a CBT therapist I was seeing in December. There are many practical suggestions provided in this book and I have worked through it several times. My advi...

Re: Trying CPAP on my own again

So last night I gave CPAP another whirl! I felt very comfortable and relaxed, but of course this is all relatively new and so I only managed to get a few hours of sleep. (maybe 4 in total) Unfortunately SleepyHead indicated that I had a very nasty cluster of about 14 clear airway events, almost all ...

Re: Trying CPAP on my own again

Thanks, Jay! I think lack of sleep also played a large part in how I responded to my initial trial of CPAP. I instantly developed a fear of sleep when I got my diagnosis and this caused terrible insomnia which made me an emotional wreck, and all "doom and gloom". So, I didn't really give CPAP a chan...

Re: Trying CPAP on my own again

Thanks Lily and Julie. Yes Julie, I went back to check and they were clear airway events. I posted about it here at the time, and the feedback I got from folks is that it was almost certainly sleep wake "junk" because I was finding it very hard to sleep and the fragmentation was awful. 99% of the CA...

Trying CPAP on my own again

After many months I've decided to start CPAP again having been diagnosed last year in Nov with moderate OSA (AHI 16) during an in-hospital overnight sleep study. In November I tried CPAP for about 10 days, having bought my own machine online because the wait time to see a sleep specialist and to get...

Re: Another link between high fat diets and sleep apnea

Interesting that you mention fasting, Julie. Ever since my diagnosis I'm very aware of diabetes because I've read that OSA and diabetes go hand in hand. Even though my NP tells me that my fasting glucose is excellent, the prospect of decreased insulin sensitivity is looming with OSA, only a matter o...
