I wash it with some clear and free dish liquid, rinse with tap water, and then rinse with distilled water. Have done this after the first week of use. Thinking it can probably go two weeks without a cleaning now.

Basically, in a nutshell, back sleeping is best avoided because gravity can have its way with your tongue, uvula and rest of the back-of-throat area so much more easily in that position.
