How often do you change nasal pillows?

I've been happily using a ResMed AirFit P10 mask for over 3 years now, cleaning the frame, headgear and pillows periodically, and replacing everything about twice a year. My equipment provider closed down, so I signed up with a new one (NORCO). They called and asked me if I was ready to receive new ...

Re: Ive changed my mind on auto-titrating devices

You can always set an auto machine to a single pressure, but you can't set a fixed pressure machine to variable pressure. Given that, these days, auto machines are not much more expensive than fixed machines, why would you prevent yourself from having a choice? Worse case scenario is that you only u...

Re: New Obama Care waste.

I also can't help but notice that Respironic's SleepMapper software suddenly and very suspiciously became DreamMapper. You can't tell me that this has nothing to do with the latest implementation step in Obamacare, right? I wouldn't be surprised if the new software beams my dreams directly to the lo...

Re: New Obama Care waste.

I can't get my humidifier to last through a full night. This was never a problem with my older CPAP unit that I purchased before ObamaCare was implemented. Do the Math.

Re: Best nasal pillow mask ?

I have a substantial mustache and find that nasal pillow masks are by far the best choice for me. I use the ResMed Airfit P10, which I like because it has the least amount of hardware and headgear on my face/head. I find that the P10 pillows actually work better when they are nestled against my must...

Re: Battery Backup in 3rd World

When running straight CPAP (no auto), I'm at 12 inches H2O. As mentioned by others, one of the reasons I kept my old ResMed S8 was that it runs off 12v DC instead of the 24V for newer ResMed machines. In the US of A, I use a Respironics PRS1 Auto, which also runs off 12v DC. I have not taken it abro...

Re: Battery Backup in 3rd World

Last year I spent some time in rural parts of Kenya. I used my 'backup' CPAP, a ResMed S8, which uses 12v DC, as opposed to the 24v of the S9. The adapter for the S9 seems expensive and bulky, but supposedly it has conditioning and protection circuitry. I used a Lithium Polymer battery for traveling...

Can't get my machine to show in my profile

I've now tried several times to get my machine (PR System One REMStar 60 Series CPAP Auto) to show up in my profile, to no avail. I go to my profile and add the machine, and it appears there just fine, but whenever I post a message, I only see my mask and humidifier, but no machine. Weird. Any sugge...

Re: Vacation (hotel) questions

I travel periodically with my CPAP, and when using the humidifier, I commonly just use tap water. It really is just no big deal. If the tap water is good enough for drinking, then it is good enough for breathing. The only problem is that some dissolved minerals may precipitate onto the humidifier he...

Re: cheap "sleep monitoring" devices

Most fitness trackers contain an accelerometer that keeps track of how many steps you take (i.e. a pedometer). That same sensor can also keep track of how much you move while you are sleeping. You can buy inexpensive fitness trackers from reputable companies, such as Jawbone (https://jawbone.com/sto...

Re: I like cold air. Can I turn humidifier on?

I too prefer cooler air, so I either run with unheated water in the humidifier, or just dry air. I've tried putting ice in the humidifier, but it doesn't last very long before it all melts. I've wondered for a while if there was some way to pass the blower air over an ultrasonic-type humidifier, whi...

I've never experienced this. Could you just back off a little on your humidifier heat setting?

Re: When people say "My travel machine ..."

My travel machine is my old ResMed S8 Elite CPAP, which I replaced with a Respironics System One APAP. The S8 is a little more compact (sans humidifier), and I don't have to take apart my everyday machine when I go traveling. With slimline tubing and an Airfit P10 mask, the whole thing fits into a s...
